I graduated from UCSD last June with a BA in Literature and Writing and a minor in Spanish Literature. I have tutored students in all areas of both the SAT and ACT for a little over two years, as well as all levels of Spanish. Test prep is no fun for students, and I strive to make it at least not a horrible experience. (I do assign homework, however.) I also remember what it is like to learn Spanish as a non-native speaker, and have a lot of strategies to make my students' work less tedious and their conversation more fluid.
Favorite terrible grammar joke: "Past, present, and future walk into a bar. It was tense."
Favorite math fact: You can create irrational numbers out of real-world measurements. For example, you can make the square root of 2 by drawing the diagonal of a square. Or, you can derive pie by dividing the circumference of a circle by its diameter.
Favorite Spanish translation: "I eat like I eat." ("Como como como.")

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I applied to and got into UCSD in high school, and helped friends write essays that were part of successful applications to prestigious schools such as Penn State, NYU, Stanford, and USC. In addition to WyzAnt tutoring, I've been tutoring SAT and ACT prep for the last year and a half, and provided assistance to dozens of high school seniors in all parts of their applications. As part of my standardized test prep experience, I've had to stay on top of trends and developments in the college application process, and am very well qualified to help students craft essays, decide which tests to take when, and set up timelines for finishing applications.
