My experience as an educator covers K-Adult Education. I have been a Library Media Specialist for grades K-8 in Cambridge, MA for five years. In Chula Vista, CA, I served as a Library and Audio-Visual Specialist for grades 7-9 for one year. I taught history and sociology in Andover, MA in grades 10-12. I decided to enter another field of librarianship and education as an academic reference librarian, head of the learning resource center, audio-visual cataloger and interlibrary loan librarian at United States International University in San Diego, CA (now it is known as Alliant University). I was an instructional media cataloger for San Diego Unified School District for 10 years. After retiring from librarianship, I pursued being a literacy tutor with READ San Diego for a year and then became involved in adult English as a Second Language volunteer. Working as a substitute adult education instructor for Grossmont Union High School District, I also was a part-time adult ESL instructor for Grossmont UHSD. My last position was as a substitute adult education instructor for correctional education with Grossmont UHSD which lasted seven years. I retired in 2009. Still yearning to work part-time, I became a certified peer
support specialist working with adults who have been diagnosed with a mental illness and/or substance abuse.
I left that field after requiring surgery on my neck and spine in January 2013. I am doing well and lead a normal, active life, but I do require wearing a neck brace for the next month or two.
My teaching approach includes structure geared to the individual student's needs and innovation with realia, kinesthetic teaching methods and audio-visual techniques in teaching ESL and history. I enjoy a casual and informal atmosphere with my students. I do have high standards and expectations of all my students which leads to high
achievement. It would be a privilege and a welcome opportunity to tutor you or your child.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
