Hello! My name is Alayne and I am here to help you meet your Spanish and English language goals. My passion for languages began with my junior year abroad in Italy, and since that time I have been seeking opportunities to teach languages as well as build my own skills.
I have more than seven years of experience as a language instructor and I have worked with both adults and children. My professional background includes teaching in institutes in Chile, Peru, Honduras, and Thailand, as well as teaching Spanish 101-102 for several years at SDSU and ESL at UCSD. I have a Masters degree in Spanish as well as a professional certificate in Teaching English as a Second or Other Language (TESOL). Additionally, I am currently completing a professional certificate from UCSD Extension in Spanish/English translation, as I work as a contract translator on a regular basis as well.
I am a patient and flexible instructor/tutor who will work with you to design a plan of study that meets your needs. As a native English speaker who now speaks Spanish fluently, I understand what a struggle it can be to learn a foreign language, and I draw from my own experiences to make your learning experience easier. I look forward to hearing from you! Hello! My name is Alayne and I am here to help you meet your Spanish and English language goals. Alayne has helped my daughter tremendously with her second year Spanish. She absolutely loves her lessons with Alayne and feels way more confident with her studies and is ready for her final exam. I would highly recommend Alayne as a Spanish tutor any day! We have used her twice now and plan to hire her in the future as well.
Thank you very much, Vickie! I love working with your daughter and I look forward to future tutoring sessions!
Great Tutor! The best!! She was so helpful, fast responses, and will definitely use her again! I had an amazing experience with Alayne.
Thanks so much, Hanna! I would be delighted to work with you any time in the future! Thanks again and talk to you later.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
After earning my BA with a concentration in Spanish and Italian I decided that my love of language and my strong communication skills in English, my native language, would help me in becoming a fantastic ESL instructor. After completing my professional certificate in TESOL and student teaching in Thailand, I went on to teach English in Chile, Peru, Honduras, and San Diego. I have been an ESL educator for more than seven years, and I continue teaching ESL at UCSD Extension's prestigious English Language Institute currently, where I also regularly tutor students individually. We can design our sessions to focus on speaking, listening, pronunciation, writing, reading, or any other areas that challenge you.
Confused about split infinitives? Not sure what a dangling participle is? Having trouble with the pesky present perfect progressive tense and when to use it? Consult me, a seasoned instructor with experience teaching grammar at all levels at UCSD Extension's English Language Institute (and many other reputable institutions). I am extremely well-versed in the grammars of both English and Spanish and can help you learn the rules to make you a better speaker and writer of either language whether you are a native speaker or not!
My experiences in language studies and acquisition have molded me into a highly qualified Spanish tutor. While living in Chilean Patagonia for a year and then in Cusco, Peru for eight months, I was very successful in learning Spanish through immersion. These long months reinforced the years of high school and undergraduate Spanish skills I had already acquired and forced me to become a better Spanish speaker than I had ever dreamed of. When I came back to San Diego I was accepted into a Spanish MA program which I subsequently graduated from as one of two Outstanding Graduate award recipients. I have several years of experience planning and teaching Spanish 101-201 at SDSU in addition to years as an English as a Second Language instructor at UCSD Extension and several institutions abroad.
Writing instructor with experience teaching composition at UCSD Extension's English Language Institute. I can help you proofread and edit your essays or other compositions for grammar, spelling, punctuation issues, and also give you suggestions as far as tone, structure, vocabulary choice, and overall style go. I can also tutor you on the elements and organization of a basic essay and help you improve your writing.
