About Veronica

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me. My name is Veronica and for over a year I have been helping students in their classrooms. My experience primarily has been working with students in elementary school. My main focus has been working with students in math, communication, and English, but my experience is not limited to elementary. I also hold experience working with high school students in math and English. I have a bachelors from UCSD in Management science, which prepared me to tutor students in economics and math at a middle and high school level. I am currently enrolled in school to attain my teaching credential and look forward to applying my knowledge and experience in helping students succeed.

I understand everyone is born with different abilities and thinks and learns differently, because I understand the uniqueness of each student, my preferred method of teaching is differentiated instruction. I enjoy helping all students who struggle in understanding a concept they consider to be difficult and seeing the excitement in their eyes when they finally make the connection. I believe a good tutor is patient, builds good rapport with their students, can motivate, and most importantly helps their students master their academic struggles.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I hold a preliminary teaching certificate from the state of California that allows me to teach primary schools. Within my two years as a teacher, I have helped students improve their reading, writing, and math skills through engaging, hands on lessons. A fun, effective vocabulary game I have used in the past is goldfish, in which students write vocabulary words and their definitions in flash cards. Students attempt to find the most pair of vocabulary words by following the rules from the card game, goldfish. I enjoy engaging studnets in learning activities and helping them learn.

Special Needs

Being an SDC teacher for the last three years has been a great experience. I have worked with studnets who have a variety of disabilities but most of my experience has been with students with Autism. I have helped students with their communication skills through the use of augmentative devices such as ProloQuo and picture exchange communifcation systems. I have also taught students with Autism improve their math and English skills through the use of accommodations and modification. Using manipulatives and other other hands on activities engaged my students in the education process and reduces problem behaviors from occurring.
I have utilized token systems as incentives for studnets who need more motivation to work. I have conducted Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and created and implemented lesson plans designed to help students meet their IEP goals.
