About Randy

I received my PhD from Boston University in 1983 in Physical Organometallic chemistry. During my time at Boston University I gained a considerable amount of teaching experience. In graduate school I was a teaching fellow for Organic, Organic for Nurses, Organic for 6 year Meds, Semi-micro Qualitative Organic, and Physical chemistry. In physical chemistry I taught lecture sections as well as lab sections. I was awarded a Polaroid Teaching Fellowship, for excellence in teaching, in 1982. After I graduated I was asked to stay on and take responsibility for the organic laboratories. This consisted of 350 students broken into 10 laboratories and ten Teaching Fellows reporting to me. All tests, grading, scheduling, laboratory and material control as well as syllabus changes were my responsibility. Additionally, while employed at Kimberly-Clark I was hired as an Adjunct Professor to teach Polymer Chemistry at Univ. Wisconsin, Green Bay. More recently, in 2009, I was an instructor at Southern California University of Health Sciences (Integrated Science Program). I taught General Chemistry I and II in accelerated format. The courses are taught over an eight week time frame with lectures and labs on Saturdays and Sundays.

My career has been in surface phenomena and I have received more than 20 US Patents and an R&D 100 award in the field. If this information is of interest, please feel free to contact me.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
