About Daniel

Hello!

My name is Dan and I am here to not only help you uncover the mysteries behind challenging mathematics and science concepts but also provide you with the study, organization, and test taking skills that earned me a 3.7 GPA, two degrees conferred cum laude (one in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, the other in Nutrition), and great distinction as a commonwealth honors scholar at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

I began working as a tutor ~5 years ago; I have worked as a science and math tutor for Korean exchange students, a reading mentor for Puerto Rican ESL students, and as a private tutor for high school through college students seeking help with courses (Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Biology, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry) and test preparation (GRE Math, SAT Math).

I strive to make challenging concepts accessible and understandable by giving my students the tools they need to fuel their own learning and to teach them skills that will carry over into the whole of their academic lives. I focus not only on teaching concepts and course materials, but how to use educational resources and learn independently. My goal is to leave my students with the skills they need to take control of there own learning so that by the time we are done, they no longer need me!

In addition to my experience with a variety of students, I bring a unique practical knowledge of science and math. I have worked as a researcher in both Academic and Government labs, including a highly competitive National Institutes of Health fellowship. Collectively I have co-authored 3 scientific papers.

I believe you will find me very accommodating and willing to help you achieve your goals. I pride myself in teaching in a stress free environment, where no judgements are passed. I am here 100% to help YOU, and I am firmly committed to doing so.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have.

Thanks!

Dan

A NOTE ON E-MAILING ME:

When you e-mail me, I have to use the wyzant.com e-mail system (not my personal e-mail). Wyzant limits what I can and cannot do with this service. They (not me) require you to have a credit card on file to exchange phone numbers or e-mail addresses. This is to ensure they get paid from lessons, as they take a commission from the tutors (like myself). You never have to pay anything until a lesson is completed, and the first lesson has a money back satisfaction guarantee. Just a heads up, as this often gets in the way of scheduling lessons, and my apologies.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Chemistry

Experienced in introductory chemistry and organic chemistry.

Drums

I have been playing drums for 9 years. I have played in school bands, and a couple of professional musicals. I can teach basic drumming skills such as rudiments, proper stick grip, rhythm/note reading, and more advanced techniques such as the drum set, including rock beats, basic jazz/latin beats and more. In addition, I am well versed in music theory which helps with any instrument.

Guitar

I have been playing guitar for 6 years, and have a steady history as a musician. I can teach beginner guitar fundamentals, basic chords, as well as more advanced aspects such as seventh chords, fingerpicking, finger-style and some melodic playing. In addition, I am well versed in music theory (4 out of 5 on AP music theory test) which greatly aids to learning any instrument.

Excellent and Accommodating

Daniel worked with our twins to review portions of their upcoming math GRE. Each twin had identified different areas that needed refreshing. Additionally, each twin was working or doing an internship with alternating schedules. Daniel was able to accommodate their need for individual tutoring and work with irregular hours. Both twins came away from this experience with high praise for Daniel a
