About Jin

My Education Philosophy (edited)

I find it a privilege to teach. Rather than viewing it as something I have to do, I view it as something I want to do. It is a passion of mine to teach. To be able to become such an important part of a child's life is rewarding. To know that I can have a great impact on a child's education is a huge responsibility.

My philosophy as a teacher is to have a lot of patience, kindness, love and time for my students. Students need a teacher willing to sacrifice. I want to be known as the teacher who gave everything to ensure that her students succeeded not only in the present time, but for a lifetime.

I believe educators should have students giving their personal best in everything they do, so they can achieve excellence and celebrate their own accomplishments.

Everyone has a teacher they remember. A student never forgets the impact a certain teacher had on him/ her. My goal is to be the teacher who puts forth the extra effort for my students so they may achieve all their dreams.

I have obtained my Multiple Subjects teaching credential from California State University Northridge and my Education Specialist Instruction credential (mild/moderate) from Cal Poly Pomona. I have worked in schools and after school programs. If your child is falling behind in school, I can help him/ her catch up. If your child is gifted and you want him or her to be more challenged, I can assist with that as well. All materials are provided and over the years, I have gathered many great resources to use with my students.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

It is important for students to have a strong foundation in kindergarten. The proper way to sound out letters will help them in their writing and reading. Sight words also play a key role in how students read. Repetition, although tedious sometimes, is key in helping students retain what they learn. Once they have mastered everything in kindergarten, they build on top of that knowledge in first grade, then second, third, and so forth. Not all students learn at the same pace and some students have difficulty grasping new concepts. I have worked with every level of students in the elementary grade. I personalize my lessons to meet the student's level and build from there. Scaffolding is so important for students. There are nine kinds of multiple intelligences and I'd like to help students see their strengths. Students learn best when they are confident and younger students tend to lose that confidence once they perceive a subject to be difficult, but I instill confidence back into students. As I tell my students, never give up, I also never give up. If one way doesn't work, I will always find a way suitable for the child to succeed.

Study Skills

A student first and foremost needs a place to call their "study area" and there should be enough room to spread out their papers and books. Keeping organized is also important. Having separate folders for each subject and sectioning them off with homework due back to the teacher and work being returned home. Jotting down future projects and exams helps the student organize his/ her time in completing the assignments and also provides enough time to be prepared for exams. Preparing for exams is just more than "memorizing" what's going to be on the exam, it's about understanding and having a solid comprehension of the subject.

I have taken all these steps in helping students to become more organized with their academics. I've found that good organizational skills save time and can also keep the students calm in which results in better study habits.

The problem with just "memorizing" information for tests is that students will forget the information after the test has been taken. I have helped students understand why something is the way it is. I have come up with strategies to help students comprehend the information rather than just simply have them memorize information. The methods help them retain what it is that they are learning.

Very professional — We've contacted Jin to help raise my 9 year old's reading and writing skills. It's been nearly 2 months and so far things are looking favorable. After an initial meeting Jin has tailored the lessons to address my daughter's weakness, made the lessons interesting with didactic videos and other teaching tools, and challenged her with homework to reinforce her learning. Jin is always punctual, courte ...
