About Kirk

Bio

My name is Kirk, and I specialize in performing minor miracles. I have even performed a major miracle or two.

I am so confident in my ability to get you results, that I offer a money-back guarantee on ANY tutoring appointment. If you are not totally happy with your tutoring session, then you pay nothing.

I tutor as a full-time job, unlike the vast majority of other tutors, and if I don't get results, I don't eat. This means that I am very focused on getting students results.

I'm relatively expensive but people hire me semester after semester because I get results, save them time and reduce their stress levels.

Listed below are my qualifications, actual results and feedback from many happy students and parents.

I'm looking forward to helping you out!

STUDENT FEEDBACK:

Colleen: "I met with the tutor [Kirk] today. He is amazing. I highly recommend him to any student struggling with statistics. This information not only makes sense now, but I am also jazzed about learning it. He started by disproving that I have a learning disability, built up my confidence, and then taught the information with absolute clarity."

Bertha: "You're expensive, but worth it." (Parent).

Lauren: "Thanks again for everything. You are a fantastic tutor!"

Megan: "Hey Kirk! I just wanted to say thank you for your help with math the beginning of this last semester. With your help I was able to gain back my math confidence! I ended up with a 97% in my math 116 class, pretty awesome considering I got an F last time."

Jillian: "If I hadn't had you, I definitely would not have passed! I wish that you could have tutored me from the start! I feel like that we’ll be spending lots of time together though when I'm taking stats!"

Statistics

Statistics

I have tutored hundreds of students from across the United States in introductory statistics. This includes all of the schools in the San Diego area as well as East Coast schools such as Cornell and New York University (NYU). At our first session, I will start with several handouts that translate all of the Greek letters and abstract symbols into plain English. After that, I will use my 20 other handouts to create templates for you to follow. In addition, I will teach you how to remember important information using proven memory techniques. I will also share with you a unique way to remember how to use your graphing calculator to easily solve challenging problems. Working together, I'm confident I can get you through statistics.

Homeschool

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

This class develops skills that are used in subjects as diverse as trigonometry, calculus and statistics. Most students breeze through the early material but then hit the wall when it comes to factoring. Unfortunately, factoring is the crucial skill that students must learn in algebra. The good news is that I have developed a proprietary system for factoring that will make factoring one of your favorite things to do. Instead of fearing factoring, you will come to love it as I do!
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

Subject matter covered in this class includes matrices, radicals, logarithms, domain, absolute value and systems of equations. In addition, graphing becomes more extensive and complicated. My methods for teaching these subjects are unique and based on my experience tutoring thousands of students over a six-year time period. If you are looking for an easier way to learn algebra, then contact me. You will be happy that you did.
Calculus,

Calculus

Calculus is known as a "major changer." What this means is that many students end up changing their major when they hit calculus. Do not be one of the 50% who fails calculus I. I can get you through this class with a minimum of pain. Let me translate all of the abstract symbols, formulas and definitions into plain English. I also have many handouts that help you get through some of the tougher spots. Please don't wait until you have failed a test or two to get help. Contact me early and reduce your stress and increase your scores.
Precalculus,

Precalculus

I take a sophisticated approach to teaching the material in this class. I show students the connection between precalculus and calculus. I like to bring students up to speed on many calculus concepts while they are in precalculus. For instance, I teach students about limits and the difference quotient which are both covered in the first few weeks of calculus. In addition, I will introduce them to the first derivative so that they are not overwhelmed in calculus I.

Trigonometry

If you did well in geometry, then you will do well in trigonometry. However, if you did not, then trig will literally have you going in circles. Speaking of circles, one of the first things I do is to teach my students how to draw the unit circle. Being able to easily draw the unit cicle is a big stress reducer! I also have unique ways of remembering the dozens of formulas that trig uses. Lastly, I have a special graphing technique that will make graphing trig functions super easy.

Amazing Stat Tutor.

Kirk is an awesome tutor. He truly understands how to break down the subject and teach it. I was very intimidated by the course at the beginning of the semester, after one session I honestly felt a sigh of relief. I 10/10 recommend Kirk for Statistics.

Ivan, 11 lessons with Kirk

Great tutor!

Kirk is excellent at walking you through each complicated concept step by step, and providing take-home handouts with the steps listed in order. He took me from truly believing that I would fail by business calculus, to somehow improving my grade to a B- through 2 tutoring sessions. Highly recommend!

Kirk is a godsend

Kirk was sent from heaven to assist my granddaughter with her college calculus. He is very knowledgeable and patient. I like that they meet at a college campus instead of Starbucks. Keep up the good work.

Statistics Savior

The first thing I want to do is publicly thank Kirk for being the most incredible tutor on the planet. If it wasn't for you I wouldn't be getting an A in statistics! You truly do have a gift of teaching Statistics. You have taken a subject that is so abstract and challenging to comprehend, and break it down in to concepts I can understand and apply to every day life. Kirk is the most organized and dedicated tutor. From day one he came prepared with handouts on material that will be taught in class. Kirk knows the curriculum, so the material he showed me would later be taught in class and I would already have had exposure to it. Kirk has so much knowledge on the subject that he knows the order in which the class will be taught; chapter by chapter, Kirk will have you prepared for every class and every exam. Kirks notes are color coded (blue, green, red and black). He will walk you through a problem step by step and assign the colors accordingly, so when you get home and review his notes they will all be so easy to understand. He not only makes things easy to understand but when the session is over you are able to do problems on your own with ease. Kirk is willing to go the extra mile for you if you are dedicated and show that you are willing to put in the work. He can't take the class for you, but if you show enough effort and are willing to take some direction, the pay off you will receive is so worth it. Kirk has been tutoring for a very long time, and he has built a system that works.every.single.time. If you follow SIMPLE instructions and listen to him, you will be guaranteed an A in any class he is tutoring you in. Since this statistics class I haven't taken math in over 11 years. I was so worried that I wouldn't even be able to get a C in the class. I have met with Kirk 2 times a week the last 16 weeks. Since my grade in the class is so high, I have been excused from taking the final. My last 4 exam scores were all A's. My teacher told me I didn't have to take the final. I am beyond grateful for Kirk. He is a wonderful tutor and person. If you chose him as your tutor you will not regret it!!!
