University of California, San Diego (Electrical Engineeri)
I have a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from UCSD. My favorite subjects are math and science, and I have been tutoring for over 15 years to students of all ages, K-12 and college. My tutoring sessions are very effective. Within the first session, I am able to pinpoint exactly what is hindering a student from understanding the subject matter. From there, I work with the student to help them understand the basics of the problem by using effective math methods, such as real life mathematical concepts. This is very important, because math is a series of building blocks. Once the basics are learned, a student can then develop the skills to tackle any math problem. I believe anyone can learn to understand math and science with just a little bit of time and help from a tutor that cares. I guarantee when I'm finished tutoring, you will definitely understand the subject matter.

My son had his first session with ShuJen last night. He was thrilled with what he learned in such a short time. He had a pre calculus test this morning and is very confident that he did well. Can't Thank ShuJen enough!
My son has been going to Shujen for about a year now and I have nothing but praise for the way things have been going for my son and his grades. He really is focused and able to understand things that he never did before. Highly recommended!!
Shujen is the 4th tutor my son has had over the last 9 years. My son has Asperger's Syndrome and has been mainstreamed since the 1st grade. We are currently in his freshman year at a public school. It was obvious after the first couple of weeks we needed some serious help with math. More specifically trigonometry & geometry. I was lucky enough to stumble upon the "wyzant" site and even more blessed when we choose Shujen. I was contacted by about 20 potential tutors who were all more than qualified, my instinct told me that Shujen was the right choice. It is very difficult as any parent knows that is looking for a tutor to know if your child is getting the foundation that they need when you don't even understand the subject. I was lost when he brought home problems with letters in them!!!!
I emailed Shujen on a Thursday night and by Tuesday my son was at the library for his first session. He currently had a "F" in the subject and I honestly didn't expect a whole lot for a few months. After the session they both agreed it went well and we set the next appointment. My son was very excited and stated he finally understood it, I was skeptical and thought he was just trying to please me. I could not believe the next day when I got an email from his teacher stating that Jake had made a 180 degree turnabout. He was pretty amazed and excited that Jake seemed to really understand what was going on in class. It was obvious to Shujen that Jake's progress would never get to a 100 percent until he understood the basic foundation and formulas of the subject. She is not just trying to get him through the course but give him a solid foundation and that is more than most tutors do.
Jake grade went from a "F" to a "C" in two and a half months. He looks forward to the tutoring because he is gaining confidence in the classroom and the subject. She is always on time and always has a smile on her face. For our family she has made a significant difference. Everything you read in her bio is true and she delivers!!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
