The Art Institute of California - Inland Empire (Media Arts and Animation)
The Academy of Art (Enrolled)
I've always enjoyed meeting other like minded individuals and sharing with them the knowledge I've acquired throughout my education in the field of art and creativity. I've had many opportunities for doing just this while attending the Art Institute of California - Inland Empire. Although I had many years of figure drawing classes under my belt, the Art Institute gave me solid foundations in the technical aspects of the art field including further knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suites as well as 3D Modeling and Animation software. While being a dedicated student, I enrolled myself in the tutoring program and have had great success in working with other students along their journey through the school's artistic programs. After graduating with high honors, I gained employment at a local television station, creating short animated films, marketing material, and graphics packages for on-air programming. I begin first as a graphics specialist and later promoted to a managerial position as art director working with a small, dedicated team. This furthered my opportunity to work with others as I spearheaded the internship program, partnering with my Alma mater, allow me to further guide students by bringing them on board to experience working in the television environment.
Recently, I've returned to focusing on my own education, and enrolled in the Academy of Art towards an MFA in Visual Development. I do miss working with other students, sharing with them what I've learned from both my scholastic career as well as work experience. Through tutoring, I hope to share with others what I've learned about the many facets of art and the creative field and encourage others through the artistic process.
I'm an avid reader and enjoy writing stories and I typically receive high marks in my many English courses. I give solid feed-back not just on grammar and punctuation, but on sentence structure, pacing and reduction of the passive voice. Although the arts are my true forte, I've always been interested in reading and writing since a young age and understand the needs for strong writing skills in preparation within the creative process.
I am proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud as well as Autodesk Maya. I have extensive Photoshop and After Effects knowledge as well as experience with creating small projects for the television industry. I will work with you to breaking down the creative process and working with you to develop the tools you need to accomplish your artistic goals.
I look forward to working with you and help strengthening your skills and understanding of the arts and the creative process! I've always enjoyed meeting other like minded individuals and sharing with them the knowledge I've acquired throughout my education in the field of art and creativity. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have nearly 13 years of figure drawing experience including courses at Watts Atelier of the Arts, the Art Institute of California - Inland Empire, and the Academy of Art, as well as attending many open life drawing sessions. I am an avid sketchbook artist and have filled up many sketchbooks throughout my studies in art. I have also studied under many reputable artists like Steve Hampton (or Michael Hampton if you are familiar with his book "Figure Drawing: Design and Invention") while enrolled at the Art Institute, and both Jeff Watts and Ron Lemen while enrolled at Watts Atelier.
I have many courses on Video Production while attending the Art Institute of California - Inland Empire for my BS in Media Arts & Animation, including Editing, Compositing and Pre-Poduction and Production class. Although my studying at the Art Institute was a focus in mostly animation, many of the same tools for animation apply to video production, including strong knowledge of Premier Pro and After Effects. While working as graphic specialist and art director for KVCR and FNX, I was constantly required to format projects in specific formatting for on-air television. I've created a few animated short films, working through the animation pipeline of script, storyboarding, pre-production, production, and post-production; many suggest the pipeline for film production follows the same process, just animation is like making a film in slow motion.
