I have 15 years of experience teaching mathematics to students of all ages and backgrounds, but I especially enjoy tutoring students one-on-one where I can focus on the student's individual learning needs. I have taught and tutored elementary, middle school, high school, and college students in arithmetic through pre-calculus. I have taught mathematics to students with many diverse needs, including students with physical and learning disabilities and English Second Language Learners from diverse areas of the world. When tutoring, depending on the student's needs and learning styles, I frequently use socratic questioning strategies, manipulatives, and visuals to help the student gain true understanding of the concept and skills being studied.
I have a B.A. in Mathematics and a M.Ed. in Mathematics Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Washington, and a M.S. in Mathematics focused on statistics from Claremont Graduate University. After studying elementary and special education at Central Washington University, I was certified in Washington state to teach K-12 Special Education, K-8 Multiple Subjects, and K-Adult Mathematics. I am currently pursuing a doctoral degree in education at Claremont Graduate University focused on how to make mathematics comprehensible for all. My daughter's math tutor left on vacation without telling us and left us stranded! I found Jennifer through WyzAnt and she immediately responded. She was able to schedule her sessions around my daughter's test and was able to teach her many abstract math concepts with ease. Thanks to her my daughter's math grade has gone up a whole grade in just 2 weeks! I highly recommend Jennifer because she is professional, patient and can translate complex math ideas easily so that the students understand. We are very grateful to her!
My daughter needed help with her Integrated Math 2...Jennifer has helped her bring up her grade and explains everything to my daughter that maes it easier for her to understand...very pleased
I enjoyed working with Jennifer. She is very knowledgable about the equations that were presented and she provided excellent demonstrations on how to work the problems. Thank you so much!
Jennifer has helped me refresh my understanding of statistics so that I can clearly explain concepts to my students. She is fantastic! She is very flexible about meeting times and the topics we cover. She's especially dependable.
Jennifer is very patient and gets to the root of the problem. Timely, considerate and prudent. She is pleasant and professional and offers helpful suggestions to the student.
Jennifer, helped me prepare for an upcoming precalculous retest. After two lessons I felt confident, understood the concepts and ready for the test. I would highly recommend her service.
She is helping me with the cbest. The math and writing sections. I'm really learning and she is helping me a lot.
Jennifer is very patient and is aware of my strengths and area where I seek improvement
Jennifer isolated problems for me to practice so I can gain confidence with specific mathematical operations before I move on to other problems.
Jennifer was amazing, The few times I took the CBEST math my score was a 25. I found Jennifer through here and after meeting with her twice she was able to help me to understand what was being asked. I just took the CBEST math again and my score was a 49!!!! Jennifer is amazing to work with. I highly recommend her.
Hello, Jennifer. This is the grandmother's opinion :). Daughter is at work, but wanted to provide feedback as soon as I saw this inquiry. Feel that my daughter would agree that your patience and cognizance are very much appreciated. According to conversation with daughter, you noticed D's incessant nail biting habit and instead of ignoring the behavior or trying to work through it, you asked if there was a "fidget" that D. could use to occupy his hands and minimize the behavior. Appreciate that sensitivity. Like your personality and hope that you and D. will do well relating to each other. In fact, D. just walked into the room, and I said "D. did you like Jennifer?". He said "Yeh, I liked Jennifer. I loved her". That means that he likes you. Thanks Jennifer.
Jennifer is helping me with math. I like the way she teaches me and now I am understanding math a little better.
Jennifer is a very knowledgeable tutor. She is extremely patient. I feel very comfortable asking her questions even if it's something we have gone over before. Jennifer is a great teacher.
She has helped me with Pre-Calculus and she is great!
She is very patient and explains really well.
I'm very happy with her.
Jennifer was realistic and spent time to learn about what I wanted to accomplish. She was very positive and helpful as we worked through problems.
I only got the opportunity to work with Jennifer a handful of times, but she really is masterful at what she does!
I needed help studying for the math portion of the CBEST, which I felt very discouraged about, and she took the time to work through things in a way that didn't make me feel dumb or belittle me as a professional individual. She seemed to have plenty of little 'tricks' to help me memorize formulas and procedures, and find my way to correct answers without having to completely re-learn things that had seemingly found their way out of my memory. I really appreciated her efforts to not just tutor me in the content, but also connect with me as an individual through her friendly disposition! I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for an experienced, understanding, and skilled tutor.
And guess what?! I passed the CBEST! Thanks Jennifer!
Jennifer, was so patient and informative in how she showed my children teach Algebra, that the kids where so enthusiastic to learn. I couldn't be happier.
I was in a pinch on my dissertation and Jennifer came to the rescue! She responded quickly, scheduled a meeting, and completed a lot of research to answer all of my questions. She is amazing and I plan on using her until my dissertation is complete! Highly recommended!
Jennifer was quick to respond to our inquiry, was professional, and arrived at our first tutoring session on time. Her patience and kind disposition won points with us and more importantly, with our teen. We received online feedback from her right away, where she expressed the outcome of her evaluation of our daughter's math skills at the first meeting and explained clear goals for future sessions. She took the time to get to know our student's future career interests and was clearly knowledgeable. I appreciated the way she explained mathematical concepts to our daughter in a way she could understand as well. I look forward to working with her in the future!
She has made Math interesting for my son in a way that he no only understands it but also enjoys it. He looks forward to working with her every week.
Helped my son realize he can do the math, that the problem is the way his teacher presents the lesson in class. He is encouraged.
Jennifer was very calm and helpful with a data entry assignment that I was having difficulty understanding. She also assisted with making sure I understood how to properly read "p values" from a table. Thank you, once again.
I like that Jennifer is very knowledgeable on the subject. She is very patient and knows what she is doing.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am fully qualified to tutor people in preparation of the CBEST math section, based on my B.A. in Mathematics, M.Ed. in Mathematics Curriculum and Instruction, M.S. in Mathematics, and over ten years of experience teaching secondary (middle school and high school) mathematics. When I took the CBEST test in 2001, I passed the math and reading sections on the first attempt. I passed the writing section on the second attempt, which I had ran out of time for in the first attempt. Since then my writing skills have greatly improved while completing my master's studies and doctoral coursework.
Experienced teaching high school geometry. Have taken several college geometry courses for math teachers, including 4-dimensional geometry and non-Euclidean Geometry. Enjoy the logical thinking of proofs.
I have a B.A. and M.S. in Mathematics. During my undergraduate studies I got a 4.0 in Elementary Linear Algebra and a 3.9 in Linear Algebra. I have several successful experiences tutoring college students in algebra at various levels.
