About Teena

I graduated from Stanford University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. I currently work as an assistant Civil Engineer. During college, I was a peer academic advisor to 5 incoming Native American freshmen. I also was a summer residential advisor to Stanford School of Engineering’s Summer Engineering Academy. After graduating I also worked with an organization called B.U.I.L.D, which was an afterschool mentoring program for Bay Area high school students. The B.U.I.L.D program’s goal was primarily entrepreneurial allowing the students to learn about financing, managing, and operating a startup.

I have always enjoyed mentoring and tutoring. I have mentored and tutored at practically every stage of my academic career, from junior high school to post college. I enjoy tutoring and giving back to students by helping them better understand what they are learning. I am available for weekend and evening tutoring sessions. I am flexible with a 4-hour cancellation window. I look forward to helping you succeed!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

When I was in high school I tutored fellow classmates in their Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 classes. I excelled in math both in middle school and high school. I attended Stanford University majoring in Civil Engineering which required advanced mathematics courses.

Recently I tutored an adult in Algebra 1 and will continue tutoring him in Algebra 2. My strategy has been to have students attempt their homework in order to troubleshoot where they’re struggling. I also incorporate “drills” that help the student with speed work and also to reinforce and complement the lessons in the classroom.

I strongly believe that math is not only important in our everyday lives but crucial to success. I had a wonderful tutor growing up and I know that tutoring does help and I hope to continue to help others with strategies I know have worked for me and others. But most importantly, math has to be fun and engaging!

Prealgebra

Study Skills

My qualifications include being a peer academic advisor during my undergraduate career at Stanford University and a mentor with an organization called B.U.I.L.D. Recently, I have been aiding an adult returning back to school for his Associates Degree. I have also been a motivational speaker, recruiter and presenter encouraging minorities to enter into the math, sciences and engineering fields. I have been in contact with numerous high school students to advise them on college level expectations.

I also work with college level students trying to enter the workforce. I was a Gates Millennium Scholar and 3rd in my high school class. I was also accepted into Stanford University where I pursued an engineering degree. I am a successful professional who wants to help others with their study skills. Everyone can achieve success, all they need are the right tools to get there!
