Most recently, I taught at Stanford University through their Continuing Studies program.

I like to have my students complete my online Digital Skills Assessment, which helps me see your strengths and challenges and helps me plan to make the most efficient use of our time together.

I've created a number of handouts and Powerpoint demonstrations, which I'm continually updating, to offer you the best instruction possible.

I've worked with a variety of ages and abilities - I even taught photography at a camp for the blind! I conduct evaluations in all my classes (although not required at most places where I teach), so I can continue to improve my teaching.

Photography instruction can either take place at my studio, your place, or remotely over the Internet. I look forward to helping you take your photography to the next level!

Adobe Lightroom,

Adobe Lightroom

I teach Adobe Lightroom at a variety of colleges and universities, camera stores, and other community venues.
Photography

Photography

I began photographing my dog when I was 9 with a Kodak Brownie camera. From there, I graduated, with my dad’s instruction, to a Kodak Retina I (c. 1939), a light meter, and a darkroom. My experience is varied from shooting portraits, exploring the intimate world of macro photography, to teaching pinhole camera construction at a camp for the blind. My photographs have either won or placed in almost every photographic competition I’ve entered including most winning “Best of Show” at the Marin County Fair. My work has been utilized by colleges, a literary magazine, non-profit service organizations, corporations. Images from my travels to to Africa were the basis of an interactive multi-media CD-ROM used to promote an African vacation for an employee sales incentive reward program. And I still like taking pictures of my dog.

Reid is a great find!

I have now completed two sessions with Reid and I am excited to continue. He and I engaged based on my interest in improving my Lightroom skills but I expect that his instruction will be more broad than just post production work. He and I are already discussing my need to improve my shooting skills and camera knowledge. He shoots on a Nikon and works in a PC Windows post production environment as do I. That alignment makes learning much faster for me.

Patient, enthusiastic and open to all my questions

We accomplished so much in 2 hours! He answered every question I had, and I felt comfortable in asking as many as I needed to have answered. I look forward to working with Reid and honing my Lightroom skills as well as skills in photography.

Cleaned up my light room mess

Was very helpful in cleaning up my mini catalog and putting my light room into a workable program. He also was able to show me many shortcuts in tricks to use in light room. I could not have been more please with my results.

Thanks!

I learned a lot in two hours, enough to get me past the obstacles I'd run into and much more. Reid is easy to work with and knows Lightroom and and out.

William, 1 lesson with Reid

extremely knowledgable

He stressed the most important and critical thing to know about the program which is where the photos actually exist and how to access them. Explained reasoning for various parts of the initial setup and workflow.

Easy to work with

I liked working with Reid. He helped me learn how to use a new camera as well as basic photo skills. He is a very pleasant guy and extremely experienced. I would work with him in the future.

Makes learning easy and enjoyable.

Reid is amazing photographer and gifted teacher. He has been tutoring me in the use of Lightroom. He is an amazing professional photographer and gifted teacher. His teaching embodies his extensive knowledge and experience. Most important for me is that his supportive and comfortable style makes it a pleasure to learn. I highly recommend Reid to both the beginning and advanced student of photography. He is a joy to work with with!
