Columbus State University (Business Management)
I am a Georgia native with a B.S. in Business Management and two AA degrees. I am currently enrolled in cooking classes at Monterey Peninsula College, and am going for a third AA in Hospitality. I have well over 200 college credits, including many in a variety of non-degree related subjects: Russian, political science, psychology, computer science, criminal justice, philosophy, and linguistics.
I think the problem a lot of kids today have is that teachers are forced to teach for the standardized tests and that stifles curiosity and creativity. I think learning should be fun, in the sense that they should never dread school. A little extra help never hurt anyone and I learned to love reading through after school programs and learning aides. I truly believe that the day you stop striving for knowledge and new experiences is the day you start to grow old.
I have experience tutoring adults and children of all ages. I have also coached little league soccer. I am prior service and have lead training on large groups, as well as one on one. While learning should be enjoyable, discipline and hard work is also necessary for success. While I have never created a lesson plan, I have created training modules, which is the same thing but allows for greater flexibility.
I have decided to become a tutor to see if I would enjoy education as a career field. I don't think traditional teaching is a good fit for me, as I'd rather not teach for tests, but rather for the sake of learning. I meet the requirements for obtaining a substitute teacher certification, but am waiting to see if I think it is something I would enjoy. I love to help people and help them learn new things. I think being able to make a positive impact in a person’s life, would be the most rewarding aspect of tutoring.
I am an excellent English tutor, as it is my first language, and I have gained an extensive vocabulary through reading. I can read a 1,200 page book in a day, if given the time, with full comprehension and recall.
Let me help with the learning process. Let me help the next generation become the better than the one before it. After all, don't we want our children to have a better life and more opportunities than ourselves?

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I played soccer from the time I was a small child, until a knee injury forced me to quit in my early twenties. After quitting, I then coached a youth soccer team for a season. I have over a decade of experience.
