Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Classics

I received a Master's Degree in Latin, Greek, and Philosophy from the U of Montana, in the course of which I studied Greek and Latin Literature extensively. I have tutored Middle and High school students in both languages and their literature since 2008. My background is especially in Classical poetry, history, and drama.

Greek

I have a Master's degree in Latin, Greek, and Ancient Philosophy from the U. of Montana. I have tutored Middle and High School students in Classical and Biblical Greek since 2008. My interests are the New Testament, the Greek epic poets, and the Athenian Tragedians.

Latin

I have a Master's Degree in Latin, Greek, and Ancient Philosophy from the University of Montana. Since 2009, I have been tutoring students (both beginning and intermediate) who are learning Latin. I try and incorporate as much verbal drills as possible, while still impressing on the student the linguistic, historic, and cultural values of Latin as well.

Microsoft Access

I have worked as an Access programmer as my primary job since 2008, designing, programming and maintaining databases for customers. These database are either stand alone or linked to mainframe computers for data sharing or download purposes. I also use Visual Basic for Access to program these projects.

Microsoft Excel

I have worked with Excel as a primary part of my job since 2008; designing, debugging, and maintaining worksheets for customers. These worksheets are either stand alone or linked to external data. I have extensive experience in using Pivot Tables and Pivot Charts for data analysis, and I also use Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) to program in Excel for these projects.

Music History

I received my Bachelor's degree in Music from St. Procopius College in 1977, and have taught classical music history since 2008. My emphasis is especially on choral music of the Medieval and Renaissance periods, although I am also well versed in the music history of the Common Practice Period. Performing choral works of modern composers also keeps me current on the trends in music history over the past 50 years.

Sight Singing

Since I received my Music degree in 1977, I have directed choirs, which requires a degree of sight singing. My current choir is a Gregorian Chant Schola which sings a weekly High Mass with Chant and Polyphony strictly a capella. This requires singing a large amount of repertoire at sight, or with very little practice. I teach the Schola sight singing in order for them to learn the music, and over the past 5 years they have become quite proficient in it.
