About Ron

With a lifelong interest in mathematics, I provide the student with a deeper understanding of the concepts and the tools needed to solve problems independently. I have a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the California Institute of Technology with a minor concentration in applied mathematics.

I have taught as an adjunct professor at two universities and have tutored students in mathematics at all levels for over twenty years. I also have extensive experience applying mathematics to real problems arising in the oil, aerospace and investment management businesses.

My primary focus is calculus, but I cover other areas at lower or higher levels as well. I will help students gain an advantage in preparing for college entrance and advanced placement exams.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Calculus

I have a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the California Institute of Technology, and a minor concentration in applied mathematics. I have worked over 20 years in research in the oil, aerospace, and investment management industries. I also have extensive teaching experience -- both as a mathematics tutor and an adjunct professor.

Differential Equations

I have a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the California Institute of Technology, and a minor concentration in applied mathematics, with expertise in differential equations. I have worked over 20 years in research in the oil, aerospace, and investment management industries. I also have extensive teaching experience -- both as a mathematics tutor and an adjunct professor.

Discrete Math

As a graduate student at Caltech I took courses on probability, combinatorics, abstract algebra and other foundations of discrete mathematics. I was a computer software developer earlier in my career where I continued to learn and apply discrete mathematics primarily in developing algorithms. I have provided tutoring over the years in this area as well with focus on discrete probability and combinatorics.

Linear Algebra

I have a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the California Institute of Technology, and a minor concentration in applied mathematics. I have worked over 20 years in research in the oil, aerospace, and investment management industries. I also have extensive teaching experience -- both as a mathematics tutor and an adjunct professor. I have a deep knowledge of and extensive experience in linear algebra -- I use it in my work on regular basis in statistical analysis, optimization and numerical solution of PDEs.
