University of California Davis (Neurobiology)
I'm Farzin F., a 25 year old male with a true passion for mathematics and sciences. I have been tutoring for 4 years now and have had great success with my students, ranging from high school to college-age, and international students. I began tutoring when I became a member of the Math Science Engineering Achievement program (MESA) at American River College. I worked as a math, chemistry and biology tutor. I transferred to University of California Davis and continued my education there. I majored in Neurobiology Physiology and Behavior which provided me a foundation for lifelong learning by fostering intellectual curiosity, problem solving and critical thinking skills, in the context of understanding organismal animal (including human) biology. In UC Davis, I worked as a private tutor, tutoring college students in general chemistry, organic chemistry, math and physiology. I prefer one-on-one tutoring and enjoy engaging my students with fun and challenging problems to prepare them well for their exams. In addition, I like to apply math to real world situations to allow my students to fully understand the relevance and necessity of knowing and using math in their everyday lives.
My approach to teaching students is simple. Most math instruction involves a lengthy discussion of the abstract theory behind the Math before instructing the student in how to solve problems. While this style of teaching has its own benefits, in the vast majority of the cases the student quickly gets bored and frustrated by the time he or she starts to solve the problems. In contrast, I teach all of the concepts by working problems step-by-step, which is a much more engaging way to learn. Please contact me about any questions you may have, and I am looking forward to working with you to reaching your GPA and test score goals. I had Farzin help with an Honors Chemistry class. He was incredible. Very knowledgeable of the subject matter and provided worksheets on each topic to help better understand the matter. Very patient and effective tutor. You will be very pleased with his work.
We asked Farzin to tutor our high school son Cameron who needed extra help in chemistry. Farzin connected very well with Cameron and was able to help him understand the topics he was struggling with and prepare for his exams. Cameron likes working with Farzin because he is patient and very straightforward with his answers and explanations.
Farzin thoroughly prepared for each tutoring session, maximizing the time spent in the session itself. For example, Farzin completed a final exam review worksheet in advance so that he could quickly identify mistakes as they worked through problems during the session and so Cameron would have an answer key to reference as he studies on his own. Farzin also counseled Cameron on strategies for preparing and taking exams.
Cameron's self confidence and knowledge of the material has improved tremendously working with Farzin. His test grades are certainly higher as a result. We couldn't be happier with our decision to select Farzin as a tutor.
It is evident that Farzin has a wealth of knowledge in mathematics and is most definitely committed to seeing students succeed. Our sessions were packed with fun and interesting lessons and during each session my son went to class well prepared for his tests. My son told me you were always attentive to the details of more challenging material and always ready with support material to further build in skills and concepts. Basically as my son gained better scores on tests, we took advantage of the discount rates and it was worth every penny.
I am happy to say that this tutor is extremely flexible and willing to travel if need be to locations that are comfortable to you and your family. I saw my son make great growth and score higher on his quizzes and mid-term as a result of very clear lessons and tricks in test taking as well. Now he will be promoted to take Geometry his freshman year. I cannot thank this gentleman enough and will certainly contact Farzin next year and not waste valuable time when a few sessions can help so much. This was a wonderful experience and your mentoring was amazing. From one teacher to another teacher: thanks a millions and good luck with all you become.
Farzin is a very engaged tutor who not only aides our student through their assignments, but also brings additional prepared lessons to help them better understand the principles in question. He is a clear communicator and helps to break down the learning process. He is also very reliable, on time, and is flexible when asked to modify schedules. He is knowledgeable in Chemistry and Physiology.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Algebra I is one the most intimidating math subjects for students. The reason is that prior to Algebra I students have dealt with numbers and all of a sudden they begin to deal with variables such as “x”,“y” and "z". Therefore, the concept may seem a bit scary with all those variables running around. The question is how to make this intimidating subject look easy. The answer is simple. Unfortunately, most textbooks and math teachers go through lengthy discussions of all the theory behind the math, which leads to boredom and frustration. My solution to this problem is simple. I go through all of the concepts by working on problems step-by-step, which is a much more engaging approach to learn.
Algebra II can be a difficult subject for students who don’t have a strong foundation in math, especially algebra I. In addition, most math teachers go through a lengthy discussion of the abstract theory behind the Math before instructing the student in how to solve problems, which lead to boredom and frustration by the time the student starts to solve problems. My solution to this problem is simple. I go through all of the concepts by working on problems step-by-step, which is a much more engaging approach to learn math. This way the student learns the skills needed to understand and tackle Algebra II problems in a logical manner.
Are you struggling with Chemistry? Chemistry does not have to be a hard subject if you have the right teacher who knows how to break down the concepts into small chunks. Many students struggle and never develop the skills to solve chemistry problems since they never get the step-by-step instruction on how to break down a chemistry problem into logical steps. I present each topic to students using example problems and detailed lectures. I find this method to be effective because the students starts to learn the concept right away and does not get board going through lengthy discussion of the theory behind chemistry. As result, student learns the skills needed to understand and tackle chemistry problems in a logical manner.
I have played chess since I was 4 years old. Currently, and I hold a chess rating of 1592 which is intermediate.
I have taken all the math up to Calculus II with above average grades at American River College. In addition, I have tutored many students in Elementary Math at the Math Science Engineering Achievement center at American River College.
Farsi is my native language. I read, write and speak Farsi.
The beginning student in Organic Chemistry is frequently overwhelmed by facts, concepts and the new language of this subject. The key to overcome this issue is to understand concepts. My goal is for students to learn by thinking and solving problems rather than by merely being told.
I have taken organic chemistry at UC Davis (chem 118ABC Series). Also, I have tutored organic chemistry at American River College for two years.
I have a degree from the University of California Davis in Neurobiology Physiology and Behavior. I have taken more than 25 units of upper division physiology courses and passed them with above average grades.
I have taken all the math up to Calculus II with above average grades at American River College. In addition, I have tutored many students in Prealgebra at the Math Science Engineering Achievement center at American River College.
I have a Bachelors Degree from University of California Davis. In addition, I have taken Science Skills and Applications courses which train students on how to study effectively. In addition, different study skills were thought. I have used these skills and obtained my B.S from a 4 year university.
