Bio

Hi. I've been a tutor for more than 15 years. I'm good at solving problems and explaining my methodology to students. I'm easy going and friendly, making the sessions much more productive than with someone who lectures at you. I love math and science, and that comes through in my work as well.

I have a PhD in chemistry, so I can help with any and all levels of chemistry, ranging from introductory high school chemistry to analytical chemistry undergraduate courses.

I have a PhD in chemistry, so I can help with any and all levels of chemistry, ranging from introductory high school chemistry to analytical chemistry undergraduate courses.

I can also help with math up through (and including) calculus.

I hope I can help you with your tutoring needs.

Chemistry,

Chemistry

I majored in chemistry as an undergraduate and went on to pursue a doctorate degree with physical chemistry as my subspecialty. I can balance equations, explain redox reactions, and do dimensional analysis. And I can show you how to do all of those things and more.
Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Calculus, Prealgebra, Precalculus, SAT Math

Math

ACT Math,

ACT Math

ACT math section is a lot like precalculus. There is a mix of geometry, trigonometry, and algebra. I know some tricks to get through some questions quicker, giving you more time to focus on the problems that take a bit more time.

Organic Chemistry

I have a PhD in chemistry, specifically in the area of physical chemistry, but I took undergraduate courses in organic chemistry and received an "A" in each one. I'm familiar with nomenclature of organic compounds and the introductory reaction mechanisms taught in these courses.

Helpful and easygoing

I feel so lucky that I was able to have Michael as my tutor. He knows his stuff, and you can tell he loves chemistry. He never seemed to have a problem when he had to repeat himself when i was struggling to grasp the material, (which I appreciate because chemistry is a subject I feel very inadequate in.) He’s patient, explains the material succinctly, and he’s a major contributing factor as to why I received an A in my chemistry class. Thank you Michael!

Chem review for high school final

Flexible schedule, very positive attitude. Clearly enjoys helping students with subject he loves. Michael has quickly built a trusting rapport with my daughter who struggles with chem exams but likes the topic and her teacher. Her performance improved in class, but i am perhaps even more thankful that Michael just broke down the fear and intense stress of it all so she can "see" the work sitting before her and use her skills to complete it. I highly recommend Michael for tutoring high school chem. He also helped with integrated math 2...common core.

Results

Michael's tutoring sessions have had immediate benefit, with higher scores on tests and quizzes, greater confidence and much less grumbling about math. Michael made the difference between a C last semester and the current A grade.
