Hello, my name is Steve, and my main goal is your success! When my students don't succeed, then I do not. I am an experienced tutor with several years of tutoring experience. I prefer to take a individualized approach whereby on our first meeting I try to assess what each student is having difficulty with and how they learn. From there I cater my tutoring to that individual student's needs. I encourage my students to be active learners giving many examples that guide the student through solving problems. I also tutor my students in study strategies that will maximize their learning when they are not with me.
My long term goal with each student is to set them up to be a successful student not only in the present but in the future as well. I have an extensive background in pre-medical and health sciences as well as standardized test preparation such as the DAT and MCAT.
My own list of accomplishments includes a 3.95 undergraduate GPA and ranking 90+% percentile in the MCAT (medical college admission test) and 99% percentile on the DAT (dental admission test) admission exams, and being currently ranked in the top 10% of my medical school class. I can tutor both students who are prepping for in class exams and students preparing for standardized tests. I am very familiar with the testing strategies used in many standardized tests and what kind of problem solving logic is needed to do well on them.
My hours are flexible. And best of all I can start right away! Hello, my name is Steve, and my main goal is your success! When my students don't succeed, then I do not. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have successfully studied for and taken the MCAT and did very well. I have a good grasp of the verbal, biology, and physical science sections on the exam. I have done enough practice to be familiar with the style of questions asked on the MCAT and what strategies to use while studying for and taking the exam. My own MCAT score for the practice and actual exams were 90% (Total score: 33) percentile and higher.
I have taken a full series of courses in organic chemistry for the health sciences. While taking the coursework I achieved a 4.0GPA. I have also prepped for both the MCAT and DAT ochem sections and have tutored them in the past.
