Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Aspergers

I have over 15 years of experience in the Special Education Classroom (mild to severe), as well as home tutoring. ABA methods are incorporated with the information shared by family and other support.

Autism

Elementary (K-6th)

I have over 15 years of experience in the Elementary classroom, teaching and privately tutoring basic skills appropriate to the students' learning needs. In focusing on the child and his/her environments, both in school and home, needed skills can then be mastered to fulfill the educational requirements.

English

My degree in Teaching English to foreign students in general and Special Education, in and out of the classroom, has allowed me 15 years of service in these areas.
Every student is unique and requires an understanding of their educational habits and goals, and family environment, which all affects the learning.
I attempt to understand the students' learning style in order to develop the appropriate teaching materials. Using Synthetic phonics, Analytical phonics, Analogy phonics, and Embedded phonics, the skills to be taught are identified, and the opportunity to use them are within a system of knowledge.

Special Needs

I have successfully worked with Special Needs Students, in and out of the classrooms, with their teachers, parents and therapists for over 15 years, in the classrooms and in their homes. With the students' profile, I have been able to use resources tailored specifically for the students' needs.

Vocabulary

Every student is unique and requires an understanding of their educational habits and goals, and family environment.
I attempt to understand the students' learning style in order to develop the appropriate teaching materials and teach reading skills, strategies, and concepts.
My instruction addresses the domains of phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension, with opportunities to apply skills in reading and writing integrated with appropriate text.

Writing

Writing for the student becomes second nature and not so dreadful when the idea of using an outline is utilized. I teach my students to "brainstorm" their intentions for their writing on paper/computer first. This will guide their efforts as their words now have a "foundation" from which to expand ideas!
