About Christine

Clear, compelling writing and consistent reading comprehension are the keys to success in class, on standardized exams, and for college application essays. My goal is to effectively and compassionately help you achieve your best. I believe in tailoring my tutoring to your personal learning style and love to work with learners of all ages.

I have a Master's in Technical and Scientific Communication, a Bachelor's in Sociology, cum laude, and I scored a 5 on the AP English Language and Composition exam, earning college credit while I was still in high school. I have four years' experience teaching and tutoring college writing and, while I enjoy being in front of a class, find working with small groups or one-on-one most fulfilling.

I am nationally published, have years of experience with public speaking and presentations, and would be happy to send you a copy of my resume, or student evaluations of my teaching, if you would like to learn more about me. I look forward to working with you and helping you be your best!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I have been playing chess informally since I was six. I don't play using study guides or known gambits but by intimate knowledge of the power of each piece and how best to harness it during play. If you're ready to expand your brain power, come learn!

Elementary (K-6th)

I have great rapport with kids and enjoy helping them learn. I've worked with my small cousin and with numerous friends' children, helping them with their homework, projects, and assignments. Along the way I've learned about dinosaurs (so endlessly fascinating!) and the best ways to keep a child's attention, helping them focus while nurturing their own curiosity.

I scored a 5 on the AP English Language and Composition exam, earning college credit while I was still in high school. I am an avid reader and delight in the written word. My goal is to help you achieve your best in your English class and I will work closely with you on whatever aspect is giving you trouble.

For ESL/ESOL students, I prefer to work one-on-one, conversing about the student's day and life and then progressing to talking about and interacting with the larger world. I am always mindful (and impressed) that any person speaking English as a second language is tackling one of the toughest languages in the world and is already completely fluent in their own!

Good grammar opens doors, helping speakers and writers come across as well-educated and knowledgeable. I will help you learn the parts of speech (verbs, adjectives, nouns, adverbs, and others) and the where and how of using each in sentences.

I have 15 years' professional proofreading experience and keep my skills sharp with occasional continuing education classes.

Public Speaking

I have taught, presented, and served as a panelist at national and regional meetings and love the chance to speak in front of a group! I will share my methods, provide gradual practice opportunities, and work hard to have you ready to comfortably share your experiences and expertise wherever you have the opportunity.

I am a voracious reader and love keeping the library in business! I enjoy working with readers of all ages, from helping new readers to sound out words to helping more experienced readers increase their reading comprehension. More than anything, I love to share my love of the written word.

I have a Bachelor's in Sociology, graduating with honors. I have taught Introduction to Sociology to college students and, in my own studies, emphasized learning about marriage and the family.

I swam competitively during school for 8 years and held a Red Cross life saving certificate. I can teach the crawl, breaststroke, backstroke, and butterfly. I have acclimated babies to the water and taught a college roommate to swim. I love the water and would very much enjoy teaching you to love it, too, or to improve your form.

I delight in using a broad vocabulary and enjoy learning the meaning of new words. Rest assured that I will work with you to share my own knowledge, give you tips on figuring out the meaning of words you don't know, and give you practice differentiating similar words from each other.

I am a published writer with four years' experience teaching and tutoring writing. I am also an editor and can help you fine-tune your writing so your piece says exactly what you mean it to say. My method includes a lot of compassionate coaching and never a red pen!

Nice and patient! — We are a family from China. Our five years old daughter wanted to learn English, and my wife also wanted to improve her English as well. Fortunately, we knew our tutor Christine through WyzAnt. She is a nice lady with great patience. She used a question based method to help my wife improve her oral English and corrected her pronunciation. For our daughter, she began her lesson with some simple wor ...
