I was fortunate and privileged to teach English as a second language in three countries: Brazil, Portugal and China. I've learned so much from each of my students, and they taught me about themselves as well as their culture. In Brazil, I taught meteorologists, because they were preparing to come to the States. I also taught high school and elementary students. In Portugal, we used the Bible as part of the school textbook even though the school was secular. In China, I taught at a business college, high school and university as well as privately own companies. I enjoyed every hour I was with my students because they are so eager to learn about America and how to speak English well. I had very good rapport with each student and a few still email me now and then to say 'hello.'
Subjects taught: Conversational English, Reading, Pronunciation, Writing, Grammar, and Business English as well as group conversation. I strive always to give 100 percent of my time to teach my students well.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
