I am an English Instructor, poet, musician, and yoga teacher living in Sacramento, California. Since 1997, I have tutored students aged eight through sixty-plus in English literature and composition; creative writing; writing in all subjects; and music history, music theory, and flute.

Additionally, I teach English composition to adults online part-time for University of Phoenix and Ashford University. I began teaching at the college level in 2007, after earning my M.A in English, Creative Writing (2004) from CSU, Sacramento and my B.A. in English Education (2001), from Humboldt State University. I also hold a Second B.A. degree in Music, Flute (2010) from CSU, Sacramento.

I am a lifelong learner, having returned to college in midlife, as a sophomore after a 25-year break. The love of learning and the passion to become my best possible self compelled me to return to college, and I am so glad that I did! Working through my degree programs as an adult, a thirteen-year process, changed my life exponentially, resulting in enormous personal growth, development of skills and innate talents, and many valuable new friends, mentors, and professional connections.

Tutoring is a way in which I can give others a hand up, give back based on all the good that has come my way in academia. It is also method of teaching that I love, since it allows me to tailor my instruction and support to each individual student. Tutoring is all about listening to the student, respecting him or her, and making a supportive relationship. You will find me patient and focused; I am eager to help you succeed.

As an English tutor and teacher, I have often worked one-on-one with individuals whose first language is not English. Although I do not speak other languages (other than a little Spanish), if a student can speak, read, and write some English, I can help him or her gain fluency and tackle coursework in English more effectively.

The four semester-long program required History of Music classes (10 A and B, 110 A and B) thoroughly covered ancient to classical music in the West, and classical through twentieth-century in the West, respectively. Additional music history classwork was required in World Music, which taught musical styles in Asia, Africa, India, Indonesia, the Middle East, and more. Knowledgable in APA format.

I've been out of school for over a decade and is now going back again. I am not a strong writer and I'm so glad to have found Ann. She looked over my paper carefully and gave me positive, constructive feedbacks. She is patient and easy to talk to. I am looking forward to continue to work with her.
