William Jessup University (Intercultural Studies)
My name is Emily. I am a graduate from William Jessup University in Rocklin. I attained my B.A. in Intercultural Studies and had the privilege of studying abroad for 4 months in Uganda. It was an amazing and eye-opening experience.
I have been tutoring for the past 5 years and I love it! I have experience that ranges from Kindergarten through college level. My strongest subjects are English (grammar, reading, writing, editing), music, and organization. I have worked one-on-one with students both inside their own home and in mine... occasionally even in a public setting. I have also worked with an elementary after-school program with kids grades K-6th.
The reason that I love to tutor peers, children and teens is that I get the satisfaction of seeing a steady growth in my students. I am also a relational person and getting to know my students is crucial. Every individual learns in their own unique way and I view it as my responsibility to discover the best learning method for my student and use it to their advantage.
I am ALWAYS excited to meet and greet new students. Starting from square one and working hard to achieve the student's goals is an exciting prospect for me and I highly enjoy accomplishing these great feats! My name is Emily. Emily has been very helpful to me as a tutor and I would recommend her to anyone in the need of help in English or just writing. She has totally brought back my confidence in my writing and will continue to provide great tutoring to anyone in need as long as she is a tutor.
Very patient, knowledgeable and flexible! After our tutoring session I had a better understand of the English grammar rules and its usage. Thank you Emily!
My son is starting to gain confidence with his writing. Emily is doing a good job of giving him assignments that he can successfully complete. Together they are working on his skills to become a better writer.
Emily has helped my daughters stay on task and connected with their homework and education as a whole.
I have two brilliant daughters, aged 15 and 12. My Sophomore is in a rather intensive IB program at her high school, and is challenged to keep on top of the volume. My 7th grader is a very smart, charming (cunning?) girl who is not completely honest about her homework, upcoming tests and pending projects. Prior to Emily's guidance, she would either claim she has no homework or already did it. Naturally her grades suffered as she was not completing assignments she was capable of.
While my girls certainly have the intellectual ability to meet their academic challenges, they struggled more with organization and accountability. I asked Emily to assist with monitoring the teacher's websites for homework assignments, upcoming tests, and project due dates. She has established a manageable organizational structure, as well as weekly checklists for them. She has also created binders for each girl, with a section for each subject that includes the class syllabus, teacher's expectations, and progress reports.
Emily has been very nurturing with the girls, and has been wonderful about keeping them 'on task' without being a taskmaster. They both love her, and look forward to their time with her. I look forward to working with Emily on an ongoing basis.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
