My name is Scott and I am an experienced tutor and educator that has been working in education for five years. I earned my undergraduate degree in education from Dominican University of California and I my master's degree in history from Sonoma State University. I have a teaching credential from Sacramento State University in History. I am a professionally trained reading tutor and I have been very successful helping kids with reading problems improve their skills. I was trained by Lindamood Bell Learning Processes and I successfully helped kids struggling with reading improve their reading scores by a whole grade level in just one summer. I have also tutored students in math, history and writing.
I have worked with kids of all ages. I was a teacher with an after school program in the Bay area, where I managed classes of twenty kids. When it comes time to tutor, I like to reinforce skills that are being introduced by the classroom teachers, but adjust instruction based on a student's ability level. When tutoring reading, I have highly effective methods I use to improve phonetic awareness and reading comprehension.
It is important for me as a tutor to work closely with students and parents to develop a plan that will best help students meet their academic goals. I encourage parent feedback and I am happy to offer homework help in addition to other skill-building methods I use. Hello!

Scott tutored my 6th grader to help him grasp the concepts of Pre-Algebra. Scott is a patient teacher and understood immediately where my son needed the most help. They worked together two days a week to review assigned homework for correction and understanding. After the homework, Scott would follow-up with extra math problems to make sure he understood the concepts. Over a two month period, my son literally went from getting low C's to solid A's. Scott was exactly what we needed to bring up my son's grades and ensure that he would be able to pass Pre-Albegra confidently and move on to Algebra in 7th Grade. School is out now but if Scott is available next school year we would definitely hire him again. Scott recently graduated with his teaching credential and is already on his way to being a fantastic teacher. We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors. Thank you Scott!
I appreciate Scott's patience and positive attitude. He always has a plan and he leaves me with instructions on what to work on between tutoring sessions.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I hold a single subject credential in history. I also have a masters degree in history. I have studied American history extensively and have taught the subject to 8th grade students in a full classroom setting.
I have worked with elementary aged students in various settings for five years. Most of my experience working with elementary students comes from my time working as an instructional assistant and after school program manager for the Blue Oak School in Napa, as well as the three after school programs I have worked for since 2006. I have other experience from being a substitute teacher where I frequently subbed for elementary classrooms.
I tutored students individually while I worked for Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes in the summer of 2009. This program trained me to help kids with reading challenges improve their reading skills. I have managed large groups of elementary students in classroom settings.
I have a teaching credential in history and social studies and have taught high school level courses in European history.

I have been professionally trained by Lindamood-Bell Learning processes, a well respected tutoring agency, to tutor students in phonemic awareness in order to improve their reading skills. Many times students have trouble associating letters with their sounds. This creates the agonizing dilemma faced by many parents of their children not being able to read smoothly. My training focused on helping kids to improve their phonemic awareness by using multiple senses to improve their phonemic awareness.
When I tutored during the summer of 2009 for Lindamood-Bell, I was able to improve student's scores by a whole grade level in just one summer.
I am trained by Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes to tutor kids in reading comprehension and decoding skills. I use several highly effective techniques to teach kids to be better readers. I have been a reading tutor for eight years.
