About Douglas

I have been in the business community for many years. My primary love is not business but education. I have a variety of interests. I am educated in philosophy and religious studies. I have a BA in Philosophy and a BA in religious studies (CSU Bakersfield). I received my Master's Degree in Philosophy from the Claremont Graduate University. Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Business

I have been working in the restaurant industry for the past 20 years. In that time, I have been a general manager primarily in the casual dining segment. I have been a general manager for the following companies: TGI Friday's, Mimi's Cafe, Texas Land and Cattle restaurant and Marie Callender's. My trained skills include, but are not limited to the following activities: writing budgets; analyzing profit and loss statements and creating strategies for improving struggling categories; teaching and implementing human resource rules that are the result of both company initiatives and federal and state laws; planning sales initiatives and devising the tactics to achieve the sales;having the ability to communicate effectively with staff and guests; working with local communities by assisting them in fund raising activities for their projects.

English

My qualifications for English are as follows: One of my bachelors degrees was in Philosophy. Also my graduate degree was in Philosophy. The practice of Philosophy, like the practice of Law, relies heavily on extensive parsing of the English language. I feel quite comfortable working with students studying English.

Philosophy

I have a B.A. and a Master's degree in Philosophy. My Master's degree was completed at the Claremont Graduate University in Claremont California.

Public Speaking

I have been engaged in customer service communications for 20 years. I have been a general manager for the following restaurant concepts: TGI Friday's, Mimi's Cafe, Texas Land and Cattle Steakhouse and Marie Callender's. In all of these concepts, I engaged in extensive customer communications. I also participated in company training programs that allowed me to present sales and training initiatives to large audiences. I am extremely comfortable communicating with both large and small audiences. As a person that is both trained in philosophy and religious studies, I have a good insight into different cultures and religious beliefs. I am also a substitute teacher in several California school districts which has given me a lot of interaction with elementary school children. I think that I am very qualified to address public speaking training situations in both adults and children

Religion

I have earned a B.A. in Religious Studies from CSU Bakersfield. The primary concentration was Western Theology; however, I also studied Asian and Indian religions in the program. I also have a real passion for the study of Philosophy of Religion.

Very knowledgeable, positive, and encouraging

Helped with the last part of my comparative religion class I still had to submit. Very Positive. Encouraging. Understanding. He knew the material, really helped me develop my own approach to answer the 3 questions. He is simply outstanding. Highly recommend him.
