About Regina

I have tutored students for most of my life. My love of tutoring started when I was tutoring my younger sister on subjects she was struggling on. From there, I started to tutoring elementary and middle school math and English while I was in high school and once I graduated college, I started to tutor students ranging from kindergarten to high school on all subjects.

I am considered to be patient and adaptable. At Cal Poly, I tutored students on informal science labs and explained concepts in a way they would understand it. I am currently in the process of obtaining my teaching credential in secondary education specifically Biology. I am currently student teaching at a high school. I also have taken my CBEST and CSET I-III on Life Science/Biology.

I enjoy teaching and am considered to have a caring approach and I try to make sure that learning takes place in a relaxed but studious situation. I always have the highest expectations of students and always have had. I can offer general education advice and find that my students normally make speedy progress towards their goals, whatever they may be. I always discuss the needs of my new students very carefully and aim to build their confidence in the subject. I find that practice in exam techniques invariably helps to rapidly improve grades. My students have fun while they study and are always proud of their progress. I try to encourage a genuine interest in any subject they studied. I help my students improve and maintain their grades by helping them with any homework or projects that they do not understand. My aim is always to raise the achievements of my students beyond their own expectations with challenging and rewarding lessons.

I can tutor math up to Algebra 1 and what makes me different from others is that I try different ways of helping the student understand the material. I use life examples or visual tools to help students who are struggling on that subject. I also have experience in prepping students for ISEE or SSAT.

I specialize in science particularly, Biology. I try to explain concepts in a way that helps students appreciate that science is all around us.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have been tutoring for over 4 years. My education in science has reinforced my math skills.

CBEST

I passed the CBEST on my first try. I also helped others study to pass the test.

English

I have tutored for over 4 years. I have taken many classes in college for English. I have also been in honors/AP English when I was in high school.

Prealgebra

I have been tutoring for over 4 years with elementary to high school students. I can tutor all subjects with English, math, and science as my strongest.

SAT Reading

I have been tutoring for over 4 years with elementary to high school students. I have prepared multiple students for testing.

Study Skills

I have been tutoring for more than 5 years since high school. Currently, I am a part time tutor and all my students have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. I strive to form good study habits for all my students and offer them tips on how to take notes and study.

Track & Field

I ran track for 4 years in high school and I was team captain for one of those years. I competed in various events such as the 4x4, 4x1, 400m, 200m, 100m, 800m, 1600m, 3200m, and pole vault. I also helped my teammates learn how to start off on a block and pass the baton during the relays. I also made it to CIF prelims.

Zoology

I attended Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo as an Animal Science major. Most of my classes were regarding various types of animals as well as the nutrition and husbandry. I have also worked in a zoo as an educator and have also help conduct research on tortoises and kangaroo rats.
