I am a true believer of the power of education because it has affected my life profoundly. Being an immigrant to the US, my childhood and early education trace back to Hungary. My family and I moved to the United States in 1989. My new adaptive Country provided me with the opportunity to complete my college education. In 2008, I had earned my bachelor's degree in science cum laude at San Francisco State University. After my graduation, I decided to pursue the teaching career. Consequently, after a two year preparation period - CBEST, CSET examinations, and related field experiences - I applied to and was accepted by San Francisco State University to be part of their Teaching Credentialing program for the 2010-2011 school year. By June 1st of 2011, I completed my teacher education course requirements and I successfully passed my Performance Assessment of California Teachers exit exam with a 3.3 grade point average.
Beyond my higher education experiences, I consider my prior work experience as an asset that can contribute to my work as an educator. I have twenty-five years' hotel industry experience, one year exposure to recreation programs and community event planning. Throughout my five years public education work experiences, I worked as an after school group leader, varsity tennis coach, substitute teacher, classroom teacher, and now as a tutor for an accredited tutoring agency. Beyond my training in the field of secondary education, my portfolio of experiences provides me with the necessary tools to perform the duties of the applied position.
During the course of my student-teaching experience, I had the opportunity to work with a diverse student population. My recent tutor position also added to my skills that helped me to be a better educator by learning how to establish good rapport with my students. My content area of the Social Science discipline requires adequate critical thinking processes, just like Math, Science, and English. It is important in the study of Social Sciences that one could apply learned comprehension of social science phenomenon to contemporary situations and draw conclusion from those. Likewise, the study of Literature, language Arts, Math, and Science requires an observant mind and critical thinking ability. As a tutor, my main goal and focus will be to make these logical connections visible to my students by using their own experiences, in order for me to be able to lead them down on that "road" of awareness, comprehension, and self-discovery.
I hope to work with your child/children in the near future, so I can help you as a parent to see your child/children achieve to the best of their abilities. Since I am a parent myself, I know that parents cannot wish more than to see their children succeed in life. I am a true believer of the power of education because it has affected my life profoundly. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
