I am a credentialed elementary school teacher with 19 years of experience teaching 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies, a California Multiple Subject Credential, and a Master of Science in Counseling. I use formal and informal assessments to determine the academic needs of each student; then use the results to develop an indvidualized education plan. Through various stragtegies and methods, I work one on one with students to develop and foster their educational growth and development, based on their individual learning style. I believe that parent-teacher-tutor communication is essential if tutoring is to be successful. Together we can ensure that your struggling student is given the best possible chance to overcome academic obstacles, and be successful in school, and beyond. My focus has been on primary reading, writing, and math, but I can teach and tutor students in grades K-6 in all subject areas.

Teaching English as a second language consists of reading, writing, speaking, and listening. I have ten years teaching English language learners in a classroom setting and find that the best way for students to learn English is to practice, practice, and practice! That practice includes speaking, listening, reading, and writing he language. On average it takes second language learners 7 years to become fluent in another language. This being said, students need to learn the correct grammar and usage of the language to become proficient in the writing and speaking of it. I work with student on these components by integrating the reading and listening into the speaking and writing, to ensure the student will become proficient in all four areas.

I have a California Multiple Subject Credential/CLAD (Expires Jan 2015). I am NCLB certified. I have a B.A. in Liberal Studies from CSU, Fresno, May 1999 and my credential program completed in Jan 2000, at CSU, Fresno.
Elementary Math,

Elementary Math

I have taught elementary math for over 10 years to students in grades 1-6, and hold credentials to teach up through grade 6. My students learn math skills by using manipulatives to build their skill development, and understanding of math concepts. Students need a solid foundation in math concepts in order to understand the more complex concepts taught in 4th grade and above. I work with struggling students by first finding out the gaps in their learning, and then working to fill those gaps. Each student has a different learning style and teaching is most effective when teachers have the ability to tailor their teaching style to fit that student. That is what successful tutoring is all about!
Reading,

Reading

Reading is one of my favorite subjects to teach! The joy of seeing smiling faces when they learn to read is inspiring and motivating to me as a teacher. My goal is always to get students up to grade-level, and beyond in their reading skills and I have been most successful at this by working one-on-one with students. Depending on the child's reading level, I will work with them on improving their reading skills and comprehension using various teaching strategies.
