I have taught and tutored high school and middle school math since 1976 and taught math at Granite Oaks Middle School up until retiring in June 2016. There are four components to my tutoring:
1. Concepts and Skills: help students understand the concepts behind what they are learning and give them practice on the skills they need to become mathematically fluent.
2. Accuracy, Organization, and Efficiency: help students organize their work and become accurate and efficient problem solvers.
3. Study Skills: help students learn effective ways to study for tests and quizzes and help them review material as they go.
4. Errors and Gaps: identify errors students make and gaps they have in their understanding and give them specific practice to learn correct methods and mini-lessons to bridge gaps in knowledge. I tutor from my home in Rocklin and am located near Whitney and Sunset.
We just started with tutoring with Carolyn, and are so glad we made this decision. She is so professional and you can tell she really cares about Madeline's success. My daughter appreciates how patient she is and has already said that it has helped her in her geometry class.
Carolyn has been tutoring my daughter. Carolyn has been very supportive and patient while helping my daughter with math. Carolyn would not move on until my daughter understood the concept and gave her examples to work on at home. Carolyn is going to start tutoring one of my other children.
Today was my daughters first tutor lesson with Carolyn and she really helped my daughter understand some stuff better in just one lesson and she was also very patient explaining it to her.We really like Carolyn and look forward to her working more with my daughter.
Carolyn was patient and made precalculus understandable. My daughter felt so much more confident after the first lesson with her. She is a great tutor.
Carolyn definitely helped me to understand the math piece of the SAT much better. I feel more confident about taking the test.
Carolyn has helped my daughter's grades. But most important, she has helped my daughter to UNDERSTAND her lessons. Thank you Carolyn.
My daughter has been working with Carolyn for 2 months on math advancement. They have developed a fantastic rapport and my daughter looks forward to her weekly session with Carolyn. Carolyn was quick to identify my daughter's learning style and provides material that has enabled her to reach her goals. Highly recommend!
Carolyn is helping my daughter with math. She is so smart and caring. She does not speak to the kids in a manner that makes them feel inferior.... My daughter has more self confidence in just a few sessions. Great tutor!!!
Highly recommend Ms. Carolyn, she was everything I had hoped for in a tutor for my son. She thoroughly explained the areas they worked on, she answered all his questions so that he understood it, she helped him learn more pre-calculus in one hour than his teacher has in 1 month! We will be regulars- Thank you
Carolyn has helped my daughter so much. Her patience and being able to work with her one on one has made all the difference. Carolyn has a way of explaining math that makes it easy for my daughter to understand. I highly recommend Carolyn!
We've been using Carolyn for quite some time and she has been a great math tutor. She is currently helping my daughter in pre-calculus. She is very patient and easy-going.
All around, a great tutor.
Carolyn is very patient and makes our son comfortable. An ongoing dialogue between "teacher and student" is important and Carolyn certainly has that gift.
Thank you for the kind words. Your son is a pleasure to work with.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
