As a young college professor of English Composition and Critical Thinking, I feel my youthful perspective and unique background brings a great deal to my teaching experience. My background of being a first generation Latin American student is something I keep close to my heart, and is something that informs how passionately I care for education. Having to navigate various academic struggles as the only English speaking member of my family was a crucial part of my life. With this in mind, I have brought this perspective, along with a cumulative 5 years of tutoring experience, and 4 years of teaching experience, with me in order to help students in Southern California become better writers and critical thinkers.

Having an educational background in Creative Writing, I am also extremely fond of personal expression and exploratory writing as a way to practice brainstorming and storytelling. Both of these are extremely important life skills in any field and it is never too soon to develop skills like these that can transfer across numerous fields and disciplines. Having a minor in Media Cultural Studies also keeps me focused on the digital literacy required for modern students to succeed in an increasingly internet connected world.

I have spent several years teaching first year college students, and being right out of high school I understand it can be a difficult transition to make. I am interested in learning about those I tutor in order to best tailor my advice and help them in the best way possible. My experience with theater and play writing also gives me the capacity to vibe with people on an emotional level and connect beyond a simple point score improvement, but to help personal development and confidence.

My ability to adapt the generation of ideas to whatever task is at hand has been honed over an almost decade of tutoring experience. The skills of summary and analysis are the two fundamental building blocks from which most English skills are required to branch out from. As long as my students work with me, then the teamwork required for reinforcing strong writing skills is a challenge I look forward to.

A history of freelance writing for various gaming websites and personal experience in studying game theory has led to a greater understanding of Computer Gaming Studies. Having studied the work of Steve Swink and James Paul Gee as a graduate student and professor has helped me understand a deeper level of how games inform the perceptions of our daily lives.

I'm an energetic teacher who looks forward to making the purpose of English seem useful and easy to perform. If you think that, and my being a little goofy, is something you could benefit from having around, please look no further, I'm your tutor. :)
