I tutor because of my passion for teaching, my love for interacting with people, my professionalism, my experience with tutoring and with children and adolescents, and my knowledge of a wide range of subjects.
My most professional tutoring experience was with the company TOPKIDS Center in Arcadia, CA. I worked there for 3 months during the summer of 2014 as a private tutor for 2 groups of students: one was a high school student who needed tutoring in Chemistry and Algebra 2, and the other was a family of three recently-immigrated elementary-aged students who needed tutoring in ESL.
I have also worked as an in-home private tutor for an 8-year old girl who recently immigrated to the United States in English for a couple months in 2012. I have had several other informal experiences of teaching.
During several international mission trips I've participated in with my church, I served as an English teacher for week-long and month-long English camps in various locations such as China, Taiwan, and Ghana. I have also served at my church as a volunteer Bible Study teacher for children during our summer Vacation Bible School programs. During my time in college, I held the position of Small Group leader as well as Area leader within my Christian fellowship, and much of my responsibilities included leading and teaching for Bible Study, and giving presentations on various topics for different special events.
I am someone who strongly values building relationships with trust and mutual respect, and I would strive to achieve that with each student, family member, and co-worker that I have the opportunity to work with. I am also reliable, willing to learn, and flexible. I would be motivated to implement any teaching materials I am given, and in the case that there are no materials provided, I have experience with creating and developing my own lesson plans that can be catered to any individual student.
I am friendly and approachable and patient. I am very capable of adjusting lesson plans to match individual student needs, and I am open to suggestions. If you would like to learn more about me or to schedule a lesson, please do not hesitate to contact me. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
