About Leo

Tutoring allows me to combine my love of computing with my desire to help those around me. I've loved computers since I first started to program at 14, using my brother's introductory C++ book, and later transitioned to C#. My interests were in video game development. For that reason I decided to study mathematics and physics, as well as computer science. It was then that I discovered how fascinating the world of data structures, algorithms and discrete mathematics was.

In high school, I took AP Physics C (the advanced version of AP Physics 1) and passed the AP exam with a 4. In college, I earned A's in my physics courses on kinematics. I've also spent time studying how these forces can be applied while working on an independent programming project where I remade my own version of Asteroids.

During college, I earned A's in all of my C++ programming classes and later served as a teaching assistant for these classes. I've also earned A's and tutored students in the following courses: data structures, discrete structures, and automata theory. In many cases, I helped bring them up a letter grade.

I graduated from UCR with a B.S. in pure mathematics, earning A's in college level discrete mathematics courses as well as tutoring others in it. I've also taken related courses in set theory and number theory which will allow me to explain these topics in greater detail.

The right data structure could improve a database, the right algorithm can help process an important protein in hours rather then decades. Yet at the end of the day what I loved most was being able to help students who needed it. Trust me, it doesn't matter what level of a programmer you are at, you will almost always need help and often it's a fresh eye that can help you fix up your code.

Contact me whenever you need help on programming and computer science.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

C++

I started learning C# when I was 14 and began focusing on C++ during high school and college. During college, I earned A's in all of my C++ programming classes and later served as a teaching assistant for these classes. I've also earned A's and tutored students in the following courses: data structures, discrete structures, and automata theory.
