I have a decade of professional experience teaching and tutoring mathematics, SAT/ACT test prep, and chemistry. Over the years I have developed very effective strategies and techniques for working with students. I have a unique knack for clearly explaining difficult concepts and problems from a number of perspectives. More importantly, I am very good at individualizing my instruction according to each student's unique needs, goals, and abilities. As a result, my students routinely experience dramatic improvements in academic performance, confidence, and SAT and ACT test scores. I am quite confident I am one of the best math and test prep tutors you can find anywhere.
Each of my students receives my greatest effort and commitment. I teach with a high level of passion and enthusiasm. I strive to act as advocate, coach, and counselor for my students, helping to ensure their immediate and long-term success, both in and out of the classroom. For all my regular-schedule students I am available by text message between tutoring sessions .
I am a highly experienced professional educator. Since I work extremely hard to help my students realize their greatest potential, I expect each student engage in the learning process with their best effort. I only work with students who care. For potential regular-schedule clients, I typically require an in-person interview/consultation with both parent and student to ensure the best possible tutoring arrangement. I expect that my students and their parents take tutoring and test prep seriously, and I expect my clients treat appointments with me just like appointments with any other skilled professional, such as a doctor or lawyer.
NOTE: I teach and tutor from my professional office which provides a secure, convenient, and efficient learning environment for my students and their parents. My office is complete with dry erase boards, testing rooms, vending machines, waiting areas, WiFi, security monitoring, textbook library, worksheets/handouts, practice tests, and more.
Please contact me if you have any questions or if you are ready to transform your educational experience.
Yes, I can help with IB mathematics (International Baccalaureate), including both SL and HL levels.
I have worked as both a paid and volunteer research assistant in two university-level research laboratories at UC Berkeley, resulting in my being published in several peer-reviewed scientific journals.
I have passed, each on the first attempt, all the relevant California Subject Examinations for Teachers (CSET) in math and chemistry. I hold a valid Certificate of Clearance along with a valid substitute teaching permit, each issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

Kevin has really helped my daughter, filling in knowledge gaps from her previous math classes. He's patient, very knowledgeable about math, the SAT, and college admissions. My daughter started working with Kevin after a disappointing PSAT score in sophomore year. I was so impressed at our first meeting, when he asked about her SAT goals, and college plans, and then tailored the sessions to meet her goals. He keeps up with the latest changes on the SAT and has been very proactive in preparing my daughter for the rigor of her upcoming IB math. Highly recommend him!
My son is fairly intelligent but needed a bit of a refresher with SAT math. Kevin is an excellent tutor. He was very accommodating and followed-up promptly. Kevin is through and was able to help him with many different math problems. I believe my son's math score will be up 100 points with just two sessions. He was super confident SAT exam day thanks to Kevin!
My daughter actually smiles before and after tutoring. This brings me joy. Math has never been easy or fun for her so the smile speaks volumes.
Kevin is an amazing tutor and is very patient! Highly recommended! He makes thing so easy to understand. I've worked with him numerous times and I always feel like I understand clearly how to solve problems on my own once I get home to practice. I'm taking an accelerated course, and I wouldn't be surviving without him!
Meeting with Kevin to assist my daughter Jonelle with her Algebra 1 course is an example of what it takes to make a difference. Jonelle was failing her algebra course because she did not understand the fundamentals of the subject. However having the weekly tutoring with Kevin made a tremendous impact. Jonelle's attitude and confidence in the subject went from a D to C and eventually a B grade. Today she is not frustrated but has demonstrated a good grasp and command of the subject. This is all because Kevin took the time to work with her. I am extremely grateful to him. Thanks again. I would recommend him highly to any parents of kids thats having a real difficult time in math.
Kevin was very knowledgeable about the subject and made the lessons easy to understand. He made sure I understood everything before he moved on. He's very patient and professional. He's a great tutor and I highly recommend him!!! THANK YOU KEVIN!
My daughter had a panic with a math test coming up and asked for me to setup a tutoring session. Kevin was able to get us in. Went over her math questions. Kevin was able to show her easier ways of solving problems. Went straight home and was able to do her math homework
Kevin has been my daughter's math tutor/instructor for the past 7 months. We were referred to him through another client. He has instructed my daughter through Algebra and Geometry. We no longer plan to take math classes through her high school and have opted to take online classes with Kevin as her primary instructor. He allows the material to go at her own pace while still challenging her to keep up and typical semester pace. Not only do Kevin's capabilities apply to math, he is able to assist students with the ACT/SAT test prep. We have referred Kevin to multiple friends and they are very satisfied with Kevin's abilities to assist their child. He's worth every penny of investment in our daughter's future.
Kevin is the Best! His tutoring skills are amazing. My daughter has already shown much improvement in math sense being tutored by Kevin. She recently took a big math test and received her best score ever. Much of it to do with the help of Kevin.
I am so thankful we found Kevin. He is the perfect tutor for our daughter. Kevin is a champion for her success!
Competent, knows what he is doing, I am satisfied, says the 17 year old student and recipient of the tutoring.
Kevin has been very helpful with preparing my daughter for the ACT at the last minute so she can qualify for a better scholarship.
He should be a teacher. He explains things in an easier way to understand for not only tests but for further education. Recommend him 100%!!
Really nice guy, works with you, even gives you worksheets to help you learn. He has an office set up with a white board, so its a comfortable learning environment and he really knows his math.
Kevin is fantastic, he is patient, encouraging, knowledgeable and fun. He is always very invested in the success of his students. My sons have both gone to Kevin for a few years now and we couldn't be more satisfied. Kevin was able to cater to our sons different abilities in math, perfectly ensuring the tutoring sessions were fun and enjoyable while also making sure they made good progress at the right pace and within their comfort levels. Kevin was instrumental in assisting my sons in scoring higher on their SAT's which no doubt played a role in them being accepted to Whittier College and UCLA. I can't recommend Kevin highly enough.
Kevin is more concerned with his students' succeess than charging for every minute of his time, and that says a lot about him, in my opinion. He is also very knowledgeable about math and is very effective with his teaching techniques.
He taught me how to find the area between cross sections, find the volume, how to use natural logarithms. He also showed me new ways to approach the problem. He explained everything well and gave me extra worksheets to practice on.
Kevin knows his stuff and makes sure you really understand the concepts. I'm more confident about my ability to solve a math problem already.
Kevin has a great way of breaking down hard problems so that my children can understand and apply them. Kevin is a very thought provoking tutor that teaches in a way that my children remember
Excellent sessions so far, My Daughter's Math test scores have already improved..in only 3 sessions. ..we appreciate your methods and hardworking dedication!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
With the proper combination of dedicated practice along with guidance from an experienced coach, students can dramatically improve their ACT scores. I know what works to boost performance because I have accumulated many years of experience working for professional test-prep and tutoring companies. I have helped dozens of ACT students realize terrific improvements because, not only am I expert at teaching the exam's math content, but I am also very skilled at delivering effective score-boosting strategies and techniques.
For serious students I typically administer a diagnostic test and create a personalized, goal-oriented plan of study, complete with regularly scheduled full-length practice exams. Longer-term preparation and practice is recommended because it allows the student adequate time to master the strategies and concepts that optimize performance.
The ACT science test is more about scientific reasoning, and not so much about scientific knowledge. There is a strong emphasis on critical reading skills, data interpretation, and argument analysis. The time crunch in this section can seem unforgiving, but with enough practice and proper guidance from an experienced coach, this test, like all other standardized tests, can be hacked. I've got 8+ years of experience showing students how to crush these types of exams, and the ACT science section is no exception.
I have nearly a decade of professional experience teaching and tutoring algebra 1 and integrated math. I am highly skilled at helping students relate to algebraic concepts and methods. I have taught complete algebra 1 courses to home-schooled and summer school students, so if you are interested in having your child take (or retake) algebra 1 for credit, please contact me so we can discuss your options.
I have nearly a decade of professional experience teaching and tutoring algebra 2 and integrated math. I have taught complete algebra 2 courses to home-schooled students, so if you are interested in having your child take or retake algebra 2 for high school credit, please contact me so we can discuss your options. I have passed all the relevant California Subject Examinations for Teachers (CSET) in this area.
My experience with this subject has mainly focused on helping students with AP calculus, but I have also worked with many college students taking business calculus and calculus I at RCC, Cal Baptist, La Sierra, and a few other colleges. I've got lots of extra worksheets, released exam questions, practice tests, and a calculus textbook collection to help you power through this subject.
I passed the CBEST on the first attempt, and I can help you pass it too! The math portion contains multiple-choice questions that assess knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, measurement, and geometry, all areas I have extensive experience teaching. If you are worried about passing the CBEST because of the math section, please contact me because I am confident I can help you pass this thing, even if math isn't your favorite subject in the world.
Over the years I have helped dozens of students with AP chemistry, honors and regular chemistry, and general chemistry at RCC and Cal Baptist (especially pre-nursing and pre-physician assistant students). I have had terrific success preparing students for both the AP exam and the SAT chemistry subject tests. I've got a file cabinet filled with handouts, problem sets, practice tests, and released exam questions to help you prepare.
My interest in elementary math developed more recently after having met too many algebra and geometry students who struggle with foundation-level concepts and skills. I feel that, mostly because of the way the system works, many teachers lack expertise outside of their particular grade level and are therefore limited in their capacity to connect one topic to another in a coherent way. If your child has been struggling with common core, I can help with elementary math starting at about the 5th or 6th grade level.
I have nearly a decade of professional experience tutoring geometry and I am highly skilled at helping students relate to geometric concepts and problems. I have taught and coached complete UC-approved geometry courses to home school students and student-athletes. If you are interested in having your child take geometry for credit (or retake it for a better grade), please contact me so we can discuss your options.
If your child has been struggling with Common Core prealgebra, please contact me because I am great at helping students "connect" to math, allowing them to begin constructing the solid mathematical foundation they'll need for their future academic success. This class encompasses a diversity of concepts, but I have a long track record of helping students relate to math in ways that can transform frustrated students into happy students.
I have a decade of professional experience working with high school and college precalculus and trigonometry students. My library contains several popular precalculus textbooks, and I have collected a great number of worksheets, handouts, and formula sheets to help students effectively navigate this class.
When it comes to the standardized college entrance exams, long-term preparation and training reliably yields dramatic score improvements and maximizes each student's potential. The summer after the freshman year is a great time to begin training with the PSAT. I cannot overemphasize the importance of starting early and, since this is your child's future we're talking about, I urge you to select a highly experienced test prep expert with a long record of success.
Thanks to nearly a decade of professional experience teaching SAT mathematics and test-taking skills to hundreds of college bound students, I can effectively help students raise their scores, sometimes by hundreds of points. I am expert at teaching both the exam's math content along with practical test-taking strategies. For motivated students dedicated to my structured program of study, I create an individualized, goal-oriented plan, complete with periodic practice exams to monitor progress. My methods reliably deliver significant score increases. Dozens of my students have raised their scores well into the 700s in the math section of this test. Of course, I've had the pleasure of helping create SAT math perfect-scorers.
Regularly scheduled sessions over several weeks or months is recommended because it allows the student adequate time to master the strategies and concepts that optimize performance. Please contact me right away if: (1) your child cares about his or her SAT score, but needs motivation to study; or (2) your child struggles with anxiety or lacks confidence during exams; or (3) your child is deficient in any SAT math content area; or (4) your child is trying to achieve a specific score goal; or (5) you would like your child to maximize his or her SAT math Level 1 or Level 2 subject test score.
