As an undergraduate at UCSD, I worked as a teaching assistant for lower division biology classes and also tutored different math subjects. I have tutored students in math and science at all grade levels: elementary, middle school, high school and college. I have over eight years of tutoring experience and I am passionate about sharing my knowledge with students.

I truly enjoy tutoring students of all ages and I always try to maximize students' learning potential by highlighting their strengths and improving their weaknesses. If necessary I will provide students with extra material to supplement their learning, while providing the support and encouragement they need for academic success.

The key to tutoring elementary math is to be patient and encouraging. I try to engage students and make the concepts interesting by giving real life examples.

Although every student has specific study needs, the study habits that he or she gains now will last a lifetime. In order to help make schoolwork feel manageable, I believe that it is important to build on the things that each student already does well, and consistently practice new habits until they become second nature. Before I became a Teaching Assistant for college biology at UCSD, I was required to complete a course that trained me on how to identify the type of learner that a student is and recommend the best study techniques for his or her individual learning needs. Also, my experience as a note-taker at UCSD significantly improved my note-taking skills and that experience has given me several strategies that I can pass along to my students. Whether a student needs help creating a study routine, taking effective notes, becoming an independent learner, or getting organized, I can help instill the necessary tools to succeed at any grade level.

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I have many years of experience tutoring algebra 1 and believe that a mastery of this subject is essential for future success in math. I enjoy working with students at this math level because it is rewarding for me to see improvements in their grades and pertinent to set a strong foundation in the concepts that will be utilized later in their academic ventures.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 is one of the math subjects that I have the most experience tutoring. I found that breaking down difficult concepts using a step by step approach provides students with the understanding and confidence necessary to apply their newfound knowledge to more challenging questions. Because Algebra 2 involves concepts that require knowledge from previous math classes, I ensure that students have a strong background in those more basic concepts before tackling more complex concepts.
Biology,

Biology

As a graduate from UCSD with a degree in Human Biology, one of my main passions is tutoring students on the many fascinating aspects of biology. As a recent graduate from USC with a Masters degree in Global Medicine, I was required to take biology classes at the medical school level where I performed at the top of my class in each course. Therefore, I have a very strong background in biology and enjoy helping students discover the intriguing workings of the world of science!
Chemistry,

Chemistry

As a human biology graduate I was required to take college level chemistry courses and performed at the top of my class in each course.
Geometry,

Geometry

After tutoring all math subjects from pre-algebra to calculus, I have noticed that most students struggle because they did not understand a certain concept the first time or it was not taught properly. Therefore, the next lesson they are given in that subject seems even more challenging. I will help you understand the concepts that you are struggling with and catch you up so that you can excel in your geometry class.
Prealgebra,

Prealgebra

Many students that struggle in prealgebra do so because they do not have a strong foundation in math. My main goal when tutoring prealgebra is to strengthen students’s weaknesses in order to catch them up so that they can succeed in their class.
Precalculus,

Precalculus

As a precalulus tutor I strive to build students’s confidence and provide them with the tools necessary for success.

Good teacher, patient

Suzanne took the time to explain the concepts I was having trouble with. She is patient and understanding. I appreciate her help.

Samantha, 1 lesson with Suzanne

Very knowledgeable and concise

My daughter was very pleased with Suzanne. She had specific geometry problems that she needed help with and some general concepts review. I highly recommend Suzanne.

Albert, 1 lesson with Suzanne

Great Tutor

Suzanne truly was patient and showed me all the formulas I had forgotten. She was able to work the problems with me, but challenged me to get my own answer before she gave me the correct answer. She teaches you different techniques to learn and comprehend the math and take the problem step by step.

Very Satisfied!!!!!

Suzanne greatly helped my daughter understand her current math skill. Her knowledge and comfort levels are growing! Samantha appreciates Suzanne’s efforts.

Extremely Patient!

We touched on the basic chemistry conversion calculations. Suzanne made it easier to understand by breaking it down into smaller pieces. She's very patient, considering i'm not a math person, and is passionate about the subject matter. I would recommend her to anyone who struggles with chemistry. I left the session feeling completely confident in having a strong foundation in the basics.

Explaining applied geometry principles

Suzanne is great. She is an awesome listener, and when she speaks she is right on point. Today Suzanne was tasked with a project that possibly is not on line with most of the projects that she sees on a daily basis. It didn't matter to her, she graciously accepted the challenge and went to work immediately. I look forward to completing this project with Suzanne.

Kind, patient, and very helpful

Suzanne was able to help me "re-learn" many things when I came to science and math. We went over math and science a lot and she helped me work out problems that I did not understand. Suzanne has been the biggest help when it came to studying for a very important test I have coming up this Saturday. very best tutor I have ever had! Thank you Suzanne!
