In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am proficient in Art History, having successfully completed two Art History courses and frequently using Art History during classroom instruction. Cubism, impressionism, surrealism and postmodern/modern/abstract art are amongst my preferred styles.

I have always had a natural knack for grammar and mechanics, being considered lovingly as a bit of a "grammar-Nazi". Having an M.A. in English, with a particular interest and natural ability in writing makes me more proficient in grammar than the average person. Additionally, teaching and correcting grammar is naturally a part of my job as a composition professor.
I possess an M.A. in English and have read extensively over the course of my academic career as well as for pleasure. My preferred genre of literature is post-apocalyptic fiction, but I am also well-versed in Shakespeare, American, British and Russian literature, and selected literature for K-12 curriculum. Unlike many of my peers in high school and undergraduate college, I actually read most of the assigned literature and am well-positioned to provide informed feedback on the literature that many teachers assign.
As an adjunct professor of English and volunteer public relations representative for a non-profit organization, I often use PowerPoint to enhance lessons and create presentations to inform the public on the services provided by the non-profit organization. As both a PC (Personal Computer) and Apple iPad user, I am relatively proficient in the usage of both of these technologies. I regularly use Windows applications on my laptop, as well as MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc. For my classroom instruction, I regularly use technology, including, but not limited to, PowerPoint and Word and use Excel to create grading and attendance spreadsheets. From a very young age, my mother fostered in me a love for reading. As a child, I routinely participated in Reading is Fundamental. As an adult, I majored in English in college and obtained an M.A. in English and am now committed to encouraging my students to read, teaching them that reading can be fun and interesting, instructing students in ways to break down large words and learn new meanings, and developing better writers through continued reading practice.
Having undergone several years of education, including two separate graduate programs, I have excellent study skills. I have always graduated at the top of my class and had a 4.0 GPA in the Education program (graduate studies) and a 3.97 in the English program (graduate studies).
