Hello there,
My name is Jack and I'm looking forward to becoming your tutor. I am currently a third year student at UC Berkeley majoring in physics. I have experience tutoring a range of subjects, including but not limited to calculus 1 through 3, high school algebra, pre-calculus, and trigonometry. Also, I tutor AP Chinese Language and Culture and I have received a perfect 5 out of 5 in the exam myself (I'm a native speaker of Mandarin Chinese). Before transferring to Berkeley, I attended...

Before transferring to Berkeley, I attended Pasadena City College for two years so I do know a thing or two about the transfer process. If you are also attending a cc and are looking to transfer (to Berkeley, especially), I might be able to advise you on that as well.

I have taken the whole calculus sequence (calc 1,2 and 3) and got straight A's. It is my opinion that calculus is a fascinating subject that goes far beyond the dull calculations that your professor might ask you to do. I would like to guide you as you take your calculus course, not just in the sense of helping you get an A, but also help you appreciate the usefulness of this subject as a tool that will later prove useful in other subjects, such as physics. Fun fact, Newton invented calculus for the study of the branch of physics that we now call Newtonian mechanics.

I am a native speaker of Mandarin Chinese who immigrated to the U.S from mainland China at the age of 16. I have received a perfect score on the AP Chinese Language and Culture exam. I believe that the success in learning a language depends heavily on whether one has the guidance of a native speaker who has demonstrated fluency and mastery in the language. I have been speaking Mandarin Chinese for all my life; not only will I be able to help you with your study of the language itself, I can also help you with the cultural aspects of living in China. Whether you are preparing for a short trip to China or an extended period of stay, I'm your guy to help you gain a working proficiency in the Chinese language.

I may not have as many years of experience as you might see on some of the other tutors here, but I can guarantee you that I am a responsible, patient, and knowledgable tutor who rarely, if ever, leaves a problem unresolved. I will explain to you until you understand exactly what is going on.

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I’m a Physics major at UCB who has taken more than enough math to help a student with GED test.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

Algebra is the kind of skill that will come in handy as one starts doing higher math. In fact, it's not an exaggeration to say that you can't survive college math classes if you don't have a solid grasp of algebra. Algebra 2 is the one class where you learn all about algebra and I'm here to help you. Believe it or not, I took Algebra 2 twice back in high school; the first time I failed and the second time I got an A. I know first-hand the struggles you might be going through right now learning algebra and I'm patient enough to guide you step by step through your studies.
Precalculus,

Precalculus

Pre-calculus is the foundation of higher math. It involves many separate pieces of mathematics that one might have encountered in high school or middle school. To have a solid foundation in pre-calculus is integral(no pun intended) to the study of calculus. As a physics major, I know first-hand how important it is to have a good understanding of pre-calculus because of its great applicability. I would like to help you in your journey of understanding pre-calculus.

Differential Equations,

Differential Equations

As a math major, differential equations was the last math course I took at my community college before I transferred to UCB. I personally enjoyed the class, not just because it's conceptually easier to understand compared to some of the other math classes(like linear algebra), but also because of its great applicability to physics, which I'm double majoring in. Lower division differential equations is really mostly computational, with much less conceptual requirements than a more "math-y" subject like linear algebra. In other words, your success in this class really boils down to the one word: PRACTICE. But it's frustrating when sometimes you just don't get something. And when that happens, you can't really start practicing because you haven't even nailed the concept yet. That's where I jump in. I'm here to guide you every step along the way, so that any question you encounter can be answered right away.

Trigonometry,

Trigonometry

Trigonometry has a wide range of applications in science and engineering. A thorough understanding of the subject will prove tremendously useful later in other courses, especially physics. I would love to guide you as you study trigonometry and answer all your questions.
