About Dana

I am passionate about languages and teaching! I am an Arabic linguist with a bachelor’s degree in linguistics and a master's from the Monterey Institute of International Studies where Arabic was my language concentration. I am a native Arabic speaker and have been tutoring and teaching Arabic for three years. Aside from Modern Standard Arabic, I am fluent in the Levantine and Egyptian dialect. I worked as an Arabic Instructional Aide at the Monterey Institute for two consecutive years where I conducted tutoring and review sessions for beginner through advanced students in the Arabic department. At Middlebury College, I taught an 8-week, 5-hour daily intensive Elementary Modern Standard Arabic class while incorporating various elements of Egyptian/Levantine Colloquial Arabic and culture. Currently, I work as an Arabic interpreter with the Department of State providing consecutive interpretation for U.S. government-sponsored visitors from overseas on public diplomacy programs around the nation.

I recognize the challenges that come with learning a new language (especially Arabic!) and tailor the lessons based on each student's goals, interests and timetable.

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you improve your Arabic language, or begin you Arabic learning journey!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Arabic

I am qualified to tutor Arabic, because I am an Arabic linguist. I have a BS degree in linguistics and a master's degree from the Monterey Institute of International Studies where Arabic was my language concentration.

The course is delivered while under the Middlebury Language Pledge which requires that all faculty and students interact solely in the target language for the entirety of the 8-week program. Class instruction, accordingly, is delivered in Arabic incorporating various audio-visual materials.

Currently, I work as a contracting Arabic interpreter with the Department of State providing consecutive interpretation and administrative support for U.S. government-sponsored visitors from overseas on public diplomacy programs around the nation.
