SFSU (Fine Art)
Dear creative student and willing parents,
Thanks for taking the time to research an art teacher/tutor to fuel your creative motor on your journey through education. Being a creative is a unique skill to have alongside your other subjects in school. Critical thinking and comprehension are completely necessary but art allows you to express your true self as an individual. Art grants you as a student to build your own identity no matter what medium you're accustomed to. I have explored drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and mixed media throughout my art life. I can teach basic drawing and composition with charcoal and pencil. As we progress, pen and ink drawings will be introduced. I favor painting for myself, so teaching basic color theory is appropriate. I have painted using acrylic, oil, and watercolor in which each medium has it's own uniqueness. Learning to handle each of these is its own lesson. From there, we will draw or paint from using still lifes (inanimate objects such as fruit, bottles, cups, flowers, etc.) to help us grasp the basics. All of the concepts might seem overwhelming, but most importantly know that all this creative learning is fun to explore. Like any other subject in school, there are basic techniques and terminology that go with art. We also can explore an interest on a peticular known artist through out history and learn about their approaches to art. Now a little about myself.
I was born and raised in Watsonville, CA, a small town in Santa Cruz County. I studied the basic art forms at Cabrillo Community College and I eventually made it to the Bay Area. I currently work at an after school program on the Peninsula and have been working with kids for over a decade. I started out being a camp counselor, but went to school for Fine Arts at San Francisco State University. Since I was a kid I have always had a knack for drawing and painting. To me, that became a passion in my life and it's important that I pass down what I have learned about being a creative individual. Drawing and painting has been a genuine way to express yourself because it tells you that can create something out of nothing and that creation reflects on who you are. Teaching or tutoring through this program provides me a way to do so. I can relate to kids from all ages from Pre-K to Grade 12. I feel comfortable will students who are eager to learn about art and ready to have fun. Thank you once again for researching my profile and I look forward to our journey.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I can tutor basic drawing techniques for all ages. I learned to draw at an early age and eventually graduated from San Francisco State University with a Fine Arts degree in painting. I also was a student at Cabrillo College in Aptos, CA, where I learned to draw in a formal manner. There I learned about crosshatching, shading, blending, and rendering. I understand that individuals have their own approaches to drawing, and I will encourage them to improve on that with my guidance.
I can tutor basic painting to all ages. I had painting lessons when I was 6 years old, and I have many fond memories of just being there and having all my supplies. I learned all about how to use a brush and to prepare a canvas. I graduated from San Francisco State University with a BA in Fine Arts with an emphasis in painting. Though I don't not have paintings in museums or famous galleries, some of my best work hangs on the walls of my friends' houses. Shape, layering, and color theory is where I can help you as a student.
