My love of teaching comes from a lifelong of learning both in and out of the classroom. I delight in helping students to realize their potential and improve their performance on tests. I help students release negative mindsets, attitudes and beliefs that may be blocking their ability to study, and replace these with training that develops both left and right brains.
I specialize in tutoring reading, writing and math for success in school and on exams. My goal in each session is to provide tasks that stretch and challenge the student like a good workout at the gym.
My tutoring service in reading includes phonemic awareness, learning the most common words by sight, reading comprehension and fluency. Writing skills include spelling, grammar, sentence structure and editing.
Parents are often amazed at the difference in their child's behavior and attitude -- wonderful "side-effects" of building these basic skills.
I have worked more than 10 years as an elementary school teacher and as a private tutor of children and adults. I delight in witnessing the change from "I can't read" to "I love to read", with the help of proven methods. Students who were behind several grade levels have learned to read and write independently.
My most memorable teaching experience took place in the Fiji Islands when all the schools were shut down because of a political coup. A group of children aged 4-9 appeared at my front door with big smiles on their faces, expecting me to teach them! The next few weeks were unforgettable as we created learning materials for each child and worked together as a team so that each child could succeed. Christine uses very interesting game method and my daughter loves it and is willing to go to the lesson next time. We also went over some writing and reading stuff. Great experience!
My son likes and looks forward to his session with Christine. I was impressed when Christine showed me a book that she picked up at the library (which was about NBA and NBA players). It was for her to better understand and connect with my son since he told her last time how much he loved to play basketball, watch NBA games and become a professional player. Her effort to better understand and guide my son was special. Christine brings warmth and attentiveness to her session with my son which allow my son to both enjoy and feel good about making a progress.
I really enjoyed her positive attitude toward my daughter. My daughter enjoyed it and is looking forward to the next session.
Christine breaks down and explains the lessons well. She is always on time and well prepared. My son definitely understands the concepts better and can now do more on his own.
Christine proofread my thesis for grammar, punctuation and consistency of format. Her suggestions to improve clarity of visual presentations in the thesis were very helpful. She also encouraged me to be confident about my writing.
Her teaching style really works well with my son whose adverse opinion of reading and writing is slowing taking a turn. Christine uses techniques that really tap into his creativity which breeds renewed interest in a subject he has been struggling with this past year in school. She keeps it light and positive which also helps him with his confidence and maintains his interest.
We focus on oral English in the lesson. We do Q and A like regular conversation. The purpose of the lesson is to point out incorrect use of English and teach me correct/natural way to represent my opinion.
Christine is being a wonderful teacher for my kids. We do not live here and we had to spend almost one month, but the kids studied in Brazil in a international school. She has being coming here everyday since January 13th, she gave classes for my 2 boys Georges (8) and Pedro (6); they are very happy to have Christine as a home teacher for all this month. She is a very special person, always bringing new ideas to make the class productive and fun.
We began working with Christine about a month ago to help my son with writing and spelling and she has been great. My son had never worked with a tutor before, and we wanted to make sure that the experience would be positive and that he would be engaged and want to continue. Christine understood his apprehension and immediately diffused it with a book she brought over about water that he found interesting. She then based the writing lesson on what he had learned in the book. I can see progress already, after less than a month. She is calm, focused, friendly, approachable, and has a very positive attitude. I also feel that she genuinely cares about my child and wants to help him succeed. I would highly recommend Christine for elementary school students.
My kid has had lessons with Christine for past two months and she has been such a great teacher. She is caring for my kid really well and suggested many different ways to teach him to improve his English. We love her and miss her!!!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I earned a Masters in Science in Educational Psychology from Cal State Hayward. I was licensed as a Marriage Family Child Therapist. I majored in English and minored in Communications for my B.A. degree.
I taught for 10 years in elementary schools. I taught at Sacred Heart Schools in Greenwich CT and in San Francisco. I have experience tutoring children and adults in reading, writing, and test preparation strategies.
I have taught elementary math in classroom and private tutor settings for over 6 years. I use a multi-sensory approach so that math concepts are learned through games and manipulation of physical objects.
I earned a Master's Degree in Educational Psychology, including coursework in elementary education. I taught in private elementary schools for 10 years. I tutored in the Riverside Unified School District and at the San Jacinto Public Library for 3 years. I use a multi-sensory approach based on Orton-Gillingham.
I have proofread professionally while I was employed by The Academy for Future Science from 2005-2013. This included proofreading books (The Overself Awakening, and The Seventy Two Living Divine Names of the Most High), articles, and promotional materials for events. This also included checking words in Hebrew, Latin, and Greek.
I have taught reading in elementary schools and in private tutoring sessions for over 10 years. I use a multi-sensory approach with emphasis on phonics to take the guesswork out of reading. Methods I use include Lindamood-Bell, Orton Gillingham, and "Brain Gym". Attitudes change quickly from "I can't" to "I CAN!"
I have taught in classrooms and as a tutor to help students learn many subjects. Study skills required for success in learning include organization, time management, establishing study habits, keeping motivation high, transforming negative mindsets, attitudes and beliefs, and behavior modification. These skills are developed in a step-by-step manner with constant monitoring to stay on track and adjust to individual needs of the student. I provide support and correction when needed to establish a solid foundation of study skills.
