I'm enthusiastic about tutoring -- I've been teaching and tutoring, as time permitted, starting when I was a graduate student.
My BA is in Maths and Computer Science, my PhD is in Physics, I did postdoctoral work in Biophysics, I was on the Physiology faculty at a university in Canada, and now I work in the Biotech field here in the Bay Area.
My approach when tutoring is to find a way to bring the student to that "aha" moment when things become clear. Not just to become clear for its own sake, but clear enough that the student can solve problems. Sometimes we must dig around the topic until its secret becomes clear, and that is the core of the tutoring process for me.
Every student is different, and I tailor my approach to the individual. Though I am hardworking and diligent in my efforts to help the understanding process, I am also patient and good-humored, as learning is less frustrating if one is in a good mood.
I can tutor in English, Spanish and German. I'm enthusiastic about tutoring -- I've been teaching and tutoring, as time permitted, starting when I was a graduate student.

My son wanted a few days of tutoring right before his physics final exam to clarify several new concepts. I needed to find a physics expert fast that could jump right in and get the job done. Michael was quick to respond to my "last minute" request and was able to provide two tutoring sessions right before the final exam. My son said the sessions were very helpful and that they helped him understand the concepts much better.
Michael is the best tutor we've ever had. He helped my daughter raise her grade in precalculus in a very patient, kind and understanding manner. Our schedule was very crazy, but Michael always managed to help her when needed. Two thumbs up!
Michael was very honest with me before I hired him that astronomy was not his core expertise. He reviewed my course material before making a commitment to work with me which I appreciated. He felt confident that he would be able to apply his math and physics background to the content which he did. Our session helped me better understand the material and prepare for an exam.
Michael taught and showed me in depth how MARIE assembly language works. I liked that he was very informative and experienced in this area among other subjects which helped me accomplish having the ability to finish my work fast and receive an outstanding grade, thanks Michael! :D
Michael has been very accommodating with our family schedule. Apart from being Very patience and knowledgeable, his communication and willing to be flexible with my daughters school schedule has been awesome! Thank you!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have used Computer Programming extensively for my work in physics, maths and biophysics, and have taught classes in selected areas. My experience includes a number of computer languages, as well as algorithms and methods for the use of computers to solve practical and numerical and control problems. I enjoy the subject, and would be happy to help others who are taking classes in this discipline.
My undergraduate degree is in Computer Science, and I started the graduate program in this field before I returned to finish in physics. As the subject matter has evolved with time, it would be best to ask me if I can help with a particular topic.
I have worked with differential equations extensively throughout my career in maths, physics and biophysics. I would be happy to help others learn and achieve in this most important branch of mathematics.
I have been using DOS for years with all kinds of projects related to PC-type computers. I can very likely help with any questions or topics that arise in this subject.
As a side project, I maintain a fleet of some 100 Windows computers at a local K-8 school, and have experience in many aspects of practical and theoretical issues.
My PhD is in elementary particle physics, and I have extensive learning and teaching experience in the major areas of physics at up to the university graduate level.
