Thanks Janet! Today you have made two parents the happiest on earth. The fact that to see the kid coming home with a smile and confidence that was never seen before is nothing short of magic. This is precious and the biggest gift that parents have never dreamed to receive from you. Thank you!!
Janet does a great job explaining concepts. She is patient and fun. Our daughter really enjoys her time with Janet and her math grades continue to improve.
Janet has a calm demeanor and uses great analogies to help you grasp difficult concepts. Our lesson was brief, but most likely will call again. I appreciated that she made herself available on such short notice - very professional!
Janet is amazing! My daughter is 7 (almost 8) and in 2nd grade. I want to make sure she stays on target and interested in math. Janet is amazing at making sure she stays on target, interested and excited about what they are learning. Janet challenges her and keeps her learning. She is always very prompt, professional, and appropriate. My daughter is always very excited about her weekly times with Janet, which I think is wonderful. Janet has years of exceptional experience and is shows. She is one of a kind!
I was pleasantly surprised that Janet kept my ADHD son engaged throughout the session. I hope this rapport will remain strong so that my son can enjoy learning. Our first lesson was definitely a success.
Janet has been a great help to my daughter in geometry, chemistry, and improving study skills. She is very good at explaining and very patient.
Janet is great with children, she knows how to talk to children, it is clear that she has years of experience. Great sense of communication, she should give more homework but she wants to be nice to children.
Janet is very good with Jacob. His grades have improved since she started working with him once a week. She is always puctual and patient.
Very patient, calm and reassuring, Janet really understands why a child cannot understand and solve math problems. She has connected on a personal level with Melissa and is able to patiently guide her through complicated Algebra problems, without making it stressful. An excellant tutor!
Janet is very patient and always attempts to meet me where I am. She adjusts her approach to ensure that I learn the material by not introducing too many approaches at once. I work full-time, so we are often meeting at my office in the evening. Before meeting with Janet, I have often worked 10 hours and when I greet her I am often ramped up and exhausted at the same time. Janet's calm and nurturing approach allows me to wind down quickly and the 2 hours we spend together flies by. I am able to stay engaged the entire time. I couldn't do it all without her and truly value her support.
I just need to say that we have the best tutor!!! My husband desperately needed tutoring for his Algebra college course. Janet has come through for him (for us) with flying colors. She is flexible with her schedule, she has made my husband feel very comfortable, and best of all, she is teaching him exactly what he needs to know to pass his tests. According to my husband, Janet has the ability to take very difficult things and make them understandable. Yeah, we are very happy.
PS. And even though I'm not in the session, she must be VERY patient!!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Because I have owned and operated college preparatory schools for several years, I have been able to accept and help students with ADD and ADHD. I have found that, with one-on-one instruction and clear explanations, students with ADD and ADHD are able to achieve in line with their innate intelligent and talents. The extra attention assures that these students are able to remain in the main stream, rather than be shunted off to special classes.
My California teaching credential is in mathematics, English and science. I have found that combination to be extremely helpful with Aspergers students. They usually need help in English, and often math, but have a profound interest in science. So, I am able to connect with these students and keep them interested while tutoring the subject needed. I have been working successfully with students of special needs for years now. I run my own school and have often enrolled students with special needs and teach them right along with everyone else. I approach each student as if as normal as the rest of us and have found this positive attitude really helps.
I am a credentialed teacher and, therefore, have qualified to pass the CBEST. My credential is in mathematics, science and English, so I have a broad base of knowledge in most academic subjects. I have been tutoring students to prepare to take other tests, such as the SATs, the GRE and the GMAT.
After 25 years of teaching K-12 all grades and all subjects, I believe I am qualified to tutor any subject in the kindergarten through sixth grade level. My credential is in English, math and science, but I believe I am qualified to tutor any subject. I have a way of figuring out if a student is stuck and get him or her past that place. I have a way of explaining a difficult subject on a simple level. I am patient.
Thank you for your interest.
My experience teaching ESL is as follows: I worked as an English teacher at The Discovery Center American School, Taiwan. 2007-2008. I also taught math and science there. From 1983 on, I have taught ESL in Redwood City at Wherry Academy. At one time I had a class with students from Taiwan, Mexico and South Korea. My English skills are strong. I am a published writer of young adult science fiction. I am currently enrolled in a doctoral program at the University of Phoenix. My grades in writing there are always A level. I have a way of explaining things clearly, which helps when speaking with a student with English as a second language.
I administer the ISEE for students wishing to enter private school in the Bay Area, so I am very familiar with the test. I also tutor and teach how to take the test, giving students tips on how to approach the test and familiarize them with test questions. In addition, I am credentialed to teach the subjects covered in the test because my credential is in math, English and science. My experience as a published writer is valuable on grammar and writing.
