I have 16 years experience teaching in a faith based Catholic school in the South Bay community. As an educator, I specialize in teaching elementary and middle school students who are struggling in English Language Arts. I enjoy teaching ways to improve reading comprehension, vocabulary skills, grammar, and writing strategies to the new Common Core standards. I have experience in Lucy Calkins “READING AND WRITING WORKSHOP” methodology which measures a student’s reading level and guides the student to read “just right books”.

I also have extensive experience in Social Studies. I am knowledgeable in 5th & 8th Grade American History, 6th Grade Ancient History, and 7th Grade World History. Since the new Common Core standards address many new writing standards, I will be able to guide and help your child write an essay or a research paper. I have written history grants to obtain money for my students to go to the Revolutionary War Re-enactment at Riley’s Farm, and chaperoned an 8th grade field trip to Washington D.C.

If your child needs help in Science, I also have 16 years experience in this field. I am able to help your child in the 5th & 7th grade curriculum which includes Biology and 6th grade Science which focuses on Earth Science. I have methods to help your child understand these key components of mastering Science at these grade levels.

In addition to my above-mentioned teaching abilities, I have spent the last year helping students from China learn English. I enjoy teaching English as a second language. I have helped students with basic English assignments in writing thesis statements, tutored in PSAT exam study questions and the TOEFL exam for measuring students’ ability to use and understand English.

If you feel my qualifications would be helpful for your child ‘s educational needs, please feel free to contact me. I am available in the afternoons after school, but I am also flexible if you have other needs. Please message/contact me for more information. Thank you for your consideraton.
