Hi, my name is Sharon, and I am an experienced teacher. I have taught elementary, middle, and high school students. My subject strength is the language arts. I am patient and friendly, but I also have high expectations for all my students. I believe that with the right teacher or tutor, any student can learn as long as he/she is motivated. I also have a talent for motivating students who are frustrated and have lost confidence in themselves. With my husband, an educator too, I have created and developed a critical-creative thinking curricula, which has been used in several schools in Los Angeles. I believe it is important for students to understand the meaning of what they are learning instead of just memorizing.

I have a BA in English with a minor in Spanish; I also have all my Master's credits in English. I have a teaching credential for K-9th grades in Multiple Subjects, but it is expired. I also have an English as a Second Language credential from Arkansas, also expired. I also had a Single Subject license for teaching Language Arts. I have excellent English grammar, usage, and writing skills.

I can send you copies of my degrees and licenses, plus references upon request.
Best,
Sharon S.

Sharon is an extremely knowledgeable tutor

Sharon is a great, patient Tutor. My son really likes interacting with her and she definitely knows how to get the best out of him. During the first session, she performed an assessment to pin point his needs and areas that need improvement. As a former 4th/5th grade teacher, she has a supreme knowledge of the English curriculum and mechanics of English language. I highly recommend her.

Very reliable, considerate teacher!

She is very considerate and patient and finds the weak points of the student and tries to fix it before the big tests.

Wonderful Tutor

Sharon tutored my daughter for one session as she needed help with timed writing skills. Sharon knew exactly what to do. First she evaluated a timed writing piece my daughter had already produced so that she could understand her weaknesses and strengths. Then, after reviewing some essential strategies, Sharon chose a short story and a prompt and together they worked through how to dissect the piece for the purpose of a timed writing exercise. My daughter left this session with renewed confidence in her writing abilities. I would highly recommend Sharon to anyone who needs timed writing practice.
