Bio

Hi, my name is Dan! I am currently a first year medical student at Loma Linda University. For undergrad, I graduated with degrees in chemistry and biology from Case Western Reserve University. In addition to those two subjects, I have a solid grasp of basic psychology as I scored within the 99th percentile on the MCAT social sciences section. My tutoring experience includes a year of prepping high school students for the SAT in their biology, chemistry, and mathematics courses.

Helping others succeed in their education is very personal to me as I once struggled academically myself. During my second year of college, I recognized if my grades did not improve, doors to a career in medicine would quickly begin to close. I met with one of my professors and completely changed my study strategy. On the following exam, I scored the high for my class and for the rest of my time in undergrad, I made the deans high honors list.

My approach to tutoring is dependent on the goals of the student. I can help explain concepts and clarify homework problems. I can also help develop particular strategies that emphasize active “learning” instead of simply “studying” to help the student come to understand the material in their own way. I believe this leads to better understanding and retention of the information. However, I am flexible in what the student’s tutoring sessions consists of as my role as a tutor is to help them achieve their unique goals.

I believe my history in these particular courses and my 6 years of research experience in molecular biology, neuroscience, and physical chemistry has provided me with a broad understanding of the subjects that allows me to better explain the concept at hand and how it ties in with previously studied information.

Feel free to reach out to me with any questions and I’d be more than happy to discuss how I can help!

Biology

I graduated from Case Western Reserve University with a major in chemistry and a minor in biology. During this time I spent 3 years in a neuroscience laboratory at the Cleveland Clinic and 1 year in a chemistry laboratory studying nanoparticles for drug delivery. After graduation, I returned to the Cleveland Clinic for 2 years to study bladder cancer in the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine before attending medical school at Loma Linda University.

Anatomy,

Anatomy

My knowledge base in anatomy includes the bones, muscles, and joints of the body. Regions that I have studied include the mediastinum, neck, abdomen, perineum, and more. I have also studied this structures on a cadaver and know many of the often tested clinical correlates related to them.

Physiology

I graduated from Case Western Reserve University with a major in chemistry and a minor in biology. In undergrad, I took a Development and Physiology course but the large majority of my physiology knowledge comes from medical school. The specific systems I am familiar with in include neuromuscular, buffer, musculoskeletal, cardiac, hemodynamics, pulmonary, gastrointestinal, renal, endocrine, reproduction, and exercise.
Psychology

Psychology

I graduated from Case Western Reserve University with a major in chemistry and a minor in biology. During this time, I excelled in all of my psychology, sociology, and communication courses. Understanding the overlapping information in these courses, I scored a 131/132, 99th percentile, on the Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior section on the Medical College Admission Test.
