Cal State San Bernardino (English Linguistics)
My name is Jake and I am a recent graduate of Cal State San Bernardino, majoring in English Linguistics. Completing an English degree requires extensive reading and writing, and in my four years at Cal State I have honed my writing and analytical skills. I enjoy everything about the English language, and I am passionate about teaching others. Writing is an essential tool for success in today's workforce, and also an effective resource for self-expression. It is my goal to help students and show them the importance of English and how they can apply it to not only their academic pursuits, but also their daily life.
As part of the English major, I volunteered in the writing center and helped students of all majors with papers on a variety of different subjects. Additionally, I have taken relevant courses such as "Learning to Tutor in the Writing Center," and "Teaching in the Secondary Classroom" that have helped me develop and hone teaching skills. I am also currently a Copy Editor on the CSUSB newspaper The Coyote Chronicle. This pursuit has given me experience in editing and formatting that I will apply to tutoring. Please feel free to email me with questions.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
