I'm currently completing my requirements for a single subject CA Teaching Credential in Mathematics, to teach Calculus and other advanced math at the high school and college levels. I've tutored dozens of students in all levels of Math, most sciences, and the other fundamental academic subjects. The former are my specialties; however, I also enjoy tutoring German Language & Literature, Violin, Viola, and Music Theory.
My teaching style centers around a balanced set of principles, holistically emphasizing academic understanding, personal level of interest, drive or motivation to learn a subject, and personal learning style (visual, abstract, academic, real-world, etc.). I've always seen success with any of my pupils in possession of at least a moderate desire to understand their subject and a willingness to slow down, take a breath, and open up to the possibility that most given areas of study are seldom as difficult as one may fear them to be.
I pride myself on professionalism, academic knowledge, a modest sense of humor and an ability to make most any subject of study "do-able" to any interested pupil. I look forward to helping you achieve a functional (if not superior) understanding of any subject with which you may be struggling. You can do it; I know you can! After only two sessions, my son declares that he wants to continue tutoring all this year, and next year too. Peter not only shows complete knowledge of chemistry and algebra, but he is encouraging and positive with my sons. He makes the tutoring sessions enjoyable for the kids, so that they look forward to their time with him. I highly recommend Peter as a tutor, and know that one day he will be an excellent teacher in a classroom somewhere.
Peter was able to help me with some very specific questions / tasks that I had in Adobe Photoshop. He was friendly and knowledgeable, and had good communication regarding our appointment. Session was at my home, and I felt comfortable using my home as the location for the session. Will definitely be using Peter again!
Great tutor. I wish my daughter's high school teachers could have this kind of impact on her. With Peter she is retaining the material studied. Came in on short notice without hesitation to help prepare for an important exam. A real privilege to have him in my daughter's corner.
My son has had about six lessons and his teacher has seen positive improvements. I like how he teaches multiple ways of completing problems.
My granddaughter sounds better on the violin after only two lessons. She had been taking lessons through the school district, but her progress was much slower. Peter is very patient with her, and very encouraging.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I'm from the old school, literally! Where cursive and manuscript handwriting were criteria for evaluation and graduation in primary school. I've also spent years in typesetting, ad copy and page layout design. Text and I go way, way back!
I've been working with linear Algebra since 1994. The only thing that's changed since then, is the status of Fermat's Theorem! I've shadowed and otherwise worked closely with Professor Z, the Math Dept Head for the San Bernardino Community College district. Linear Algebra is a way to apply new tools and perspectives to most of the popular maths, sciences, and even language.
I have played the violin since 1982 as a student and since 2001 professionally. I currently play baroque music with the Ad Hoc Consort in Rancho Cucamonga, CA, renaissance and medieval music with the Danse Macabre in Irwindale, CA, and gypsy violin with Gallows Humor at various faires, lounges and other venues.
My knowledge and experience in music theory and applications are sufficient to tutor beginning and intermediate students of the violin and viola, among other instruments.
