I am a professional communicator who has trained more than 20,000 people across the country, including youth and first-responders at the federal, state and local level. I have won numerous communication and leadership awards at the international, national, regional and state level.
I founded a non-profit to prevent, rescue and restore American minor victims of human trafficking and grew it in five short years from an idea to a 400+ strong volunteer organization that had raised multi-million dollars. We opened one of the nation's handful of safe houses for American child victims of this crime and won a national award from ICE Homeland Security in Washington, D.C. and Fort Worth Women's Commission Organization of the year.
I resigned as executive director recently to begin preparing to return to school to study social justice and government to better help the world's marginalized people groups and am interested in tutoring to help supplement that.
I have a master's degree in communications and more than 20 years of professional experience. I am among only seven percent of accredited business communicators in the United States. My interest in tutoring stems from my belief that education is a key to keeping our youth on the right path and I believe in using a variety of teaching techniques to engage youth in learning. Education transforms lives and I know how to build relationship with youth I am mentoring to keep their attention and help them understand how critical education is to success.
My extensive experience in communications and training equips me to tutor at a level that many tutors do not possess because they have not had that level of in-depth experience.
I have worked closely with Homeland Security, the FBI, Texas DPS and local law enforcement and the juvenile justice system and have undergone numerous background checks through that work. I am happy to submit my resume and references. I currently have a very flexible schedule as I will not start school until the fall. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
