I’m Landon. Need help in basic math, geometry, algebra, science or history? I have real "hands-on" experience in engineering and business and how math works in the real world.

I am a veteran of the U S Air Force as a nav-aids and communications radio tech. I served in the Philippines and Japan during my tour of duty.

My teaching skills and experiences have been developed by my technical training in the Air Force, my engineering career, business management, conducting seminars and management training in the corporate world, an FAA certified flight instructor and tutoring foster children.

As a flight instructor I trained student pilots to fly and navigate an airplane for their pilot’s license certificate. That is a real sense of using geometry, estimating time and distance, fuel consumption and weight and balance equations. Once they received their certificate they now had a license to learn how to fly by their own experience. That is what teaching is all about. It gives you the training on how to learn by your own experience.

In the business world I analyzed business operations of small to medium sized companies by "doing the math" to make them more profitable by revising budgets and reducing hidden expenses, prepared and presented economic and business solutions.

This is real experience beyond the textbooks. I share this experience with my students so that they can better appreciate what they are learning and how it applies in their daily lives and career opportunities. It makes learning more like a game or challenge and gives the student a feeling of accomplishment.

My experience with younger students from elementary through high school was tutoring and home schooling as a foster parent. I have helped raise 65 foster children and got many of them through school and on to their professions.

Take your learning into the real world environment beyond the classroom then contact me for some real hands-on learning experiences.

Look forward to working with you.

Drawing

Interested in learning how to draw? There are many objectives in wanting to learn how to draw. Some people draw for the artistic expression of their minds eye. This is to be interpreted by the observer and may be viewed differently. This is usually a hobby for one's own enjoyment or perhaps to market their own art products. The other objective in learning to draw is for illustrating a design concept so it may be produced by others. An architect must be able to draw buildings and how they are to be built so that the construction team can build them exactly as designed. They must be clear and precise. A lot of math is involved to assure the building is strong, safe and to structural codes. Other design concepts are in manufacturing of products such as cars, airplanes, electronics, and more. This generally requires a higher degree of math because they are mass produced by several manufacturers of the parts and they must fit the mating parts and be interchangeable. I have designed and developed components and end products for the space industry including missiles, satellites, and computers. I have conducted design concept presentations to scientists and engineers. I have taught designers and draftsmen how to communicate designs with high tolerance mathematical dimensioning on paper or computer programs so they can physically be manufactured and operated. Regardless of which option you choose in learning how to draw there are some basic rules and principals to learn. These are the basics that I can teach and then let the students decide from there where they want to take it. My actual teaching skills and experiences have been developed through my education and engineering career, business seminars and training, flight instruction and tutoring foster children. What I offer to my students is real hands on experience and how it applies in the real world.

Hello students. What would we do today without computers? If you are illiterate in basic computer operations these days it's like being illiterate in not knowing how to read or write. It's very important to at least learn the basics of general computer operations so you can exist in this high-tech world around you. Would you believe that there was a time when no computers existed? I lived in those times. My first computer in engineering was a stick with graduated numbers and a clear slide with a reference line to find your answers. It was called a "slide rule". Everything was done on paper. No hard drive to store data. My first experience with computers was in 1980 when I was a manager for an engineering design group. My boss came into my office with an IBM computer and set it on my desk and said, "You need a computer". WHAT? I didn't know the first thing about it. I turned it on and all it did was flash "OK" "OK".. OK what? I had to learn how to talk to it. Or rather write the commands on the keyboard. There was no point-and-click with a mouse. I had to actually tell it what I wanted and sometimes it understood my requests. It was a basic system and didn't even have a hard drive. After lots of playing around and teaching myself how to operate the thing I finally got the hang of it and even learned how to write my own games. SHHHH! My students aren't suppose to know that. Being in the engineering environment I had to learn fast or I would have soon been obsolete and no longer able to keep my job. Same holds true today. You can become obsolete real fast if you don't keep up with the rapidly growing and evolving high-tech world. Now that I have gained all those years of self taught experience with no one to really teach me the ropes I am well prepared and qualified to teach others the basic ropes plus some advanced stuff in MS Word, Excell, Power Point Presentations, searching the web, building a web site and how to maintain your computer. Hello students. I am Landon. I have a strong background in electro-mechanical engineering and in business management. I have hands-on experience in the application of math and science and how it works in the real world. This is real experience and not just from out of the textbooks. I share this experience with my students so that they can better appreciate what they are learning and how it applies when they need these skills to earn a living and improve their own life status. Learning without a vision of real purpose can be an extremely boring and unpleasant experience. But, learning can be an enjoyable experience if it is taught with good learning habits and study skills and an understanding of how it is applied in the real world. This makes learning more like a game or challenge to research the answers. It gives the feeling of accomplishment and self esteem. History

American History

American History

It is said that those who don’t know history are bound to repeat their mistakes. History can be one of the most fascinating subjects if taught as true life adventures in literature and storytelling. It also teaches how we became who, what and where we are in our own lives today as a result or our ancestors’ decisions. Our ancestors have brought us to where we are in our environment, our life style, and where we are living today. If it weren't for them we wouldn't even exist. We can learn from their adventures and mistakes to better improve our own lives. So many people are illiterate in history and cannot make the right decisions in their own social, professional and political lives. They are often force fed into forming their own beliefs and in many cases it’s like the blind leading the blind. History classes in most cases are boring and just another burdensome task in learning names, dates and places of events in the past centuries. I teach History as story telling with excitement and entertainment to stimulate the curiosity of “What happens next?” I learned this technique from my high school History teacher who made History class so interesting that it brought a sigh of disappointment when the bell rang because we wanted to know what was coming next. It was like those TV series where you had to wait for the next episode to see what happens. Knowing your history is also good conversation in social gatherings that impresses your friends and stimulates their interest as well. The most interesting part is the trivia that most people never knew and it really stimulates interest. So learn History as an educational adventure for a life changing experience. Landon Leffler

Learning algebra is learning the basic steps in your daily activities. It is used in domestic tasks such as cooking, planning your finances, driving a car etc. In career opportunities algebra is the gateway to a profession in engineering, construction, science, management, logistics, further education and advancement. One of the basic problems in learning Algebra is that the student is not up to speed in basic math. I find that many of my Algebra students are still struggling with fractions, decimal conversion, multiplication and division and graphing positive and negative numbers. Learning my method of “The Magic of Numbers” simplifies the mental processes in solving most all math problems. Before we get into the algebraic equations I bring my students up to speed in the basics of how numbers work together. With a better understanding of fractions, decimals and the basic math processes then algebra becomes more understandable. Algebra is nothing more than finding the unknowns from the knowns. Breaking down the equations into several more simplified problems then applying the order of operations is the secret in solving the original problem. Once the student sees the overall picture as nothing more than several little pictures all placed in one tapestry then Algebra is not so mystical. Then we can get into the more challenging algebraic equations and ace the tests. These are my objectives in working with my students.

Elementary (K-6th)

My actual teaching skills and experiences have been developed through my engineering career, business seminars and training, flight instruction and tutoring foster children. I conducted design concept presentations to scientists and engineers, teaching designers and draftsmen how to communicate designs with high tolerance mathematical dimensioning and on paper or computer programs so they can physically be manufactured and operated. In the business world I have prepared and presented economic and business problems and solutions as well as promoting and educating consumers and a sales force on products and services. I also taught ground school and flying to student pilots wanting to earn their pilot's license. That is a real sense of using geometry, estimating time and distance, fuel consumption and weight and balance equations. My contact with younger students from elementary through high school was after school tutoring and home schooling as a foster parent for 15 years. So if you want to take your learning out of the classroom environment and into the real world environment then contact me for some real hands-on learning experiences. Lo
Geometry,

Geometry

Learning Geometry is learning one of the basic steps in our daily activities. It is used in domestic tasks such as decorating or remodeling a room, driving a car, measuring distances or heights that are out of reach, etc. In career opportunities Geometry is the gateway to a profession in engineering, construction, science, management, logistics, further education and advancement. One of the basic problems in learning Geometry is that the student is not up to speed in basic math. I find that many of my students are still struggling with fractions, decimal conversion, multiplication and division and graphing positive and negative numbers. Learning my method of “The Magic of Numbers” simplifies the mental processes in solving most all math problems. I bring my students up to speed in the basics of how numbers work together. With a more sold understanding of fractions, decimals and the basic math processes then Geometry becomes more understandable. It is nothing more than finding the unknowns from the knowns by breaking down the equations into several more simplified problems then applying the order of operations. This is the secret in solving the original problem. Once the student sees the overall picture as nothing more than several little pictures all placed in one tapestry then Geometry is not so mystical. These are my objectives in working with my students.

Study Skills

I am Landon. Learning is a real experience and not just from out of the textbooks. I share this experience with my students so that they can better appreciate what they are learning and how it applies when they need these skills to earn a living and improve their own life status. Learning is a skill on study procedures and habits to get the most out of the subject. Once you develop those skills learning becomes much easier and not such a unpleasant and grueling task. My actual teaching skills and experiences have been developed through my engineering career, business seminars and training, flight instruction and tutoring foster children. My contact with younger students from elementary through high school was after school tutoring and home schooling as a foster parent for 15 years. Many of these kids had learning disorders and by working with them it sharpeded my communication skills with these kids so I was able to break through their road blocks in their learning ability and we were able to improve their grade point average. They began to realized that they did have the ability to learn and apply what they have learned. So if you want to take your learning out of the classroom environment and into the real world environment then contact me for some real hands-on learning experiences. Look forward to working with you. Landon

Test Preparation

ASVAB

ASVAB

Planning On Joining The Service? The modern military is not just carrying a weapon around with a backpack. It is very hi-tech and in need of higher skilled individuals. To enlist you first need to pass The Military ASVAB Test which is the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery. The test was developed by the Department of Defense and is used by the armed forces to determine whether you have the mental aptitude to enlist and technical skills and qualifications for tech schools and job classifications. The higher the score the more opportunities open up for you. Then you can be more selective as to which branch of service you choose to enlist and what special training and jobs you can qualify for during your tour of duty. Much of the material on the ASVAB is not taught in school and many do not pass it the first time. That's why you should get a tutor. I am a U. S. Air Force Veteran and quite familiar with the ASVAB testing requirements. I have firsthand experience in the application of these subjects in the real world. I was a navigation and airways communication technician during my tour of duty with the Air Force. As a civilian I continued my education through the GI Bill and became an electrical and mechanical engineer, flight instructor and tutor for students from K through 12 and under graduates in college. Most of my students in all grade levels have difficulty in basic math. This is the first area I focus on before beginning any course. The ASVAB requires proficiency in the following subjects. Paragraph Comprehension Word Knowledge Mathematics Knowledge Arithmetic Reasoning. Knowledge of Auto & Shop Mechanical Comprehension Knowledge of Electronic Information General Science. I tutor in all these subjects using the ASVAB publications to help elevate your overall score so you have more choices and better opportunities during your tour of duty. Thank you for your interest and let's pass that ASVAB with flying colors for a better skilled job and training; and thank you for wanting to serve

Very Knowledgeable and Courteous

Landon is a courteous, patient person. Willing to help Nicki out with her basic math needs as well as work from her school book. We have only had a few lessons but we have enjoyed having him there to teach us what we need to learn.
