I recently graduated from San Diego State University with my Bachelor's in English. Prior to my time at San Diego State, I attended Orange County School of the Arts where I studied Creative Writing. I've been published numerous times for short stories and poetry and have a passion for the skill of creative writing. I worked as a 4th and 5th grade English tutor for two years while in High School in combination with tutoring older students who needed assistance with college and high school papers, SAT and ACT prep, college essay applications, etc.
I like to encourage and motivate my students in a way that allows them to express creativity through their work, but that allows them to develop techniques that will assist them in the subject when they're out on their own. I mainly focus on the breadth and depth of knowledge that is being portrayed through a piece of writing. This is crucial for critical essays and analysis papers and, by identifying these areas, it becomes possible to rearrange papers into a more logical form that conveys the message you, the writer, are attempting to document. I believe in detailed annotations and making helpful suggestions that can spark new ideas throughout pieces of writing.
If you are the type of person that needs to start at square one and has no idea where to start an essay, no problem! We can create detailed layouts of papers where I can teach construction of essays and then gradually move into the writing process so you are able to have a cohesive piece that you are proud of in the end!
I regularly help with professional papers and documents as well, such as writing and editing resumes so convey the best sense of who you are as a business man or woman. Communicating in an effective and efficient manner is pertinent and I am here to work with you to deliver your thoughts in a well-spoken and organized manner.
For those creative writers out there! I am your girl. I absolutely love workshopping and discussing creative writing ideas. I regularly write and focus on bettering my own work every day. No matter what the piece, we can help you reach your goals and finish the piece!
I received my Bachelor's degree in English from SDSU and studied Creative Writing at Orange County School of the Arts. I have been published for my creative writing in various literary magazines and have been tutoring for five years.
I am dedicated to helping my students be the best they can possibly be; I encourage creativity and understand that not all students learn the same way. I focus on portraying thoughts in an organized manner that pinpoints each student's personal needs. I believe in having an open line of communication and listening to what my students find important, wether it's their writing style or a specific issue they are having that they need assistance with.
I am someone that genuinely wants each student to reach their full potential and is willing to put time and energy into ensuring that they reach their individual goals! I am open and love to work with new people and watch them grow in a skill that they may be struggling with. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I enjoy focusing on particular characteristics of speech writing that allow a speaker to excel in front of an audience; I primarily focus on the tone of the speech, the depth and breadth of what is being discussed and how to incorporate information in an effective manner, and expressing mastery over body language during speeches.
